Sounds of Empathy

Kieran heard a quiet knock on the window not even an hour later as he raised his eyebrows and he put the book quickly to the side.

Another, louder sort of knock real quickly came at the window as Kieran threw on a hoodie to cover up the cuts and bruises on his chest as he quickly was walking over to the window.

Kieran swiftly pulled open the window and he saw that Erica was hanging off of the side of the house and she was barely standing on the tiny ledge, just above the kitchen on the main floor.

"What in the hell, are you doing here?" Kieran asked and as soon as he saw her, he pushed the window open as far as it would go and he quickly climbed out.

He crouched on the ledge where her fingers were, as he grabbed onto one of her wrists and pulled her up. Erica was soon crouching on the ledge next to him and he was shaking his head.

"Well?" Kieran asked and at the words, Erica sighed a little bit. "Do I have to repeat my question again for you?" Kieran questioned and at the words, she shook her head.

"I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. You raced out of the Youth Center like your ass was on fire and I can see that you are now, just wearing headphones over your ears..." Kieran backed up as she pointed at them and she sighed, getting the point from it.

"I won't take them off of your extremely sensitive ears, Kieran, if that is what you are now looking, so damn scared of. But I have a question for you then... Can you actually hear me right now?" Erica asked and at the words, Kieran very slowly, he nodded a little bit. "You can somehow hear me through those, but I can also now hear your music blasting, through those on your ears."

"It is kind of a... well, it is not a kind of complicated situation. It is rather an extremely complicated situation for me." Kieran murmured and Erica sighed. "You wanna come inside?" He asked and she glanced at him, before she glanced at the window.

"Are you as comfortable out here as you are in there?" Erica asked and he nodded a little and she cracked a little bit of a smile at the sight. "I bet that your brother, he would just straight-up, just straight up, just, fall off of the roof." Erica said and Kieran chuckled a bit.

"Maybe. But, seriously." Kieran brought the conversation back down and Erica shrugged a little.

"Sure I guess, but I was just planning to say hi, check on you, then go." Erica admitted and Kieran ducked back into his room, ducking down, and he was almost, almost doing a limbo move to avoid the window. "You have had some real good practice at this, haven't you?" Erica asked and Kieran nodded.

Erica ducked into the room and she looked around, as her jaw was nearly dropping at the amount of stuff stacked in the room.

Kieran had neatly packed totes stacked up to his height that were all labeled "art" and then when she took the time to look over his bookshelves, they were neatly labeled.

Which naturally meant for him, that he had at least five different stacks of books around his room, that he was reading at any given moment.

The only thing that seemed properly organized was his closet, which had a few shelves that had things that he didn't want to show people.

There were rope-climbing competition awards, a whole lot of them, along with a whole lot of second-place karate trophies.

"Who in the hell was the damn person... that beat you? I haven't seen you be defeated by anyone?" Erica asked and Kieran said nothing, as he walked over and he took the trophy back from her and put it back on the shelf.
