Sounds of Freedom

Kieran pulled them both now real quickly onto the roof and Erica was looking out at the sunset in astonishment, at the sight of the sky in a variety of colors. "Told you that it wasn't dangerous." Kieran murmured and Erica's jaw had dropped.

"Kieran, how did you know when it was going to happen?" Erica asked as she was shaking her head.

Kieran was just sitting on the very very edge of the roof with his legs just very casually, hanging off of it.

Erica carefully joined him now at the edge as he was smiling, at the sight of the sky.

"I learned to time it on my own, just after my parents started putting most, if not all of their energy into Jason. I spent hours up here, sometimes I even fell asleep on the roof. I love it up here, I feel free. They can't get me up here." Kieran said and Erica was watching the sunset still, until it was gone and she looked at him. "This is my place, the roof. I would spend all day here and all night, if I could, but I never could." He admitted to her.

"Why would you show me?" Erica asked and he looked at the ground, as she moved her hand up and he looked at her hand, which rested on the side of his face.

"I trust you, I guess." It was barely a whisper, but Kieran had spoken up as she nodded a little.

"You haven't shown this place to anyone else? Your brother? Your parents--" Kieran scoffed.

"My parents? They would rather shout, scream and tear my stuff apart than encourage me." Kieran said and she moved her hand away.

Erica was suddenly aware of how cold, it seemed to be and she was now shivering a little.

Kieran pulled off his hoodie and handed it to her at the sight of her shivering and she was in shock, at the sheer amount of scars and bruises all over his upper body.

"Jesus." She said as she wore the offered hoodie from him and as she went to study them, he swiftly turned away. "Kieran let me see." She said and after a moment or two, she moved to the other side to look at them after he gave no response.

"A lot of these, they are all from accidents over the years." Kieran murmured and she looked at him, as she hesitantly moved a hand out and he stiffened, as she moved a hand to one of the bigger ones. "I went cliff diving. One of my jumps dislodged a few smaller rocks, they cut me open at the speed they were falling." He said and she looked up at him. "I'm not lying." He said and she nodded at the words.

"I'm covered in scars too." Erica admitted softly and Kieran moved his arms around her, and, they were both surrounded by the darkness. "But some run deeper than others."

"Yeah, some of them do." Kieran whispered and she moved her arms around him in silence. "Your heart is speeding up, are you okay?" He asked quietly and she nodded a little, as she rested her head on his chest.

"I'm okay. Aren't you cold?" Erica asked and Kieran looked down at her with a very small smile pulling at the corners of his mouth.

"Not really. But if you are, we can go inside." Kieran murmured and Erica's arms went around him. "Come on, let's go inside." He said softly and she nodded.

Erica had managed to climb down on her own and Kieran had ducked back into his room, as she followed him into the warmer space.

Kieran carefully shut the window again, being very careful to not slam the window shut and Erica held out his hoodie back to him, as he shook his head. "Don't worry about it." He said and he went into his closet, as he moved around until he found a zip-up hoodie and he shrugged into it.
