Chapter 17

Caroline sat on the porch swing lost in her thoughts. She was shaking in fright after her encounter with Katherine at the grill. She hated herself for trying to break up Stefan and Elena but if she didn't her mom and sister would be killed.

She had failed to keep Elena away from the Salvatore house and Tori went missing, she knew Katherine was behind Tori's disappearance even if Tori convinced everybody otherwise.

Caroline kept replaying what Katherine told her over and over again in her head. No matter how much she didn't want to it was playing like a broken record.

Caroline washed her hand and face in an attempt to calm her nerves. She had let Elena go and she knew Katherine would be pissed. As soon as she looked in the mirror she jumped in fright seeing Katherine behind her "Katherine." Caroline said with her eyes wide

"Care to share how you couldn't follow through with one simple task?" Katherine asked as she looked at her nails

"I tried okay? But I couldn't exactly kidnap my best friend,"Caroline said trying to defend herself

"Well, you couldn't kidnap Elena but because of your incompetence I have your sister,"

"What!? Please, I am sorry, I tried, okay I really did. Please don't hurt Tori"

"Occupy her. That's all I asked. One simple task," Katherine told Caroline

"Look, I told her that her relationship was doomed and all that mortality stuff. I think...I really think that I got to her. Okay, I am sure that Elena and Stefan will not last long. Please don't hurt Tori. I will do better, I promise," Caroline said pleadingly

"I hope so because let's not forget, how easy it is to snap a neck. I already killed you once; I can easily do it again after I make you watch me rip your sister's heart out while I drain your mother," Katherine told Caroline before rushing away leaving Caroline scared and traumatised

Caroline jumped up in fright when she heard a noise, she immediately looked around to see if anything was out of the ordinary but nothing was. She knew that she couldn't do anything to Katherine but maybe Tori could help her. Caroline stood up to check on Tori and to see if they could find a way to get rid of Katherine.

Damon walked into Tori's room. Here." Damon said as he handed an ice-pack to Tori

"Thanks," Tori asked as she held the ice pack on her head, wincing in pain

"Vampire blood will help heal that faster and you wouldn't be in pain," Damon told his daughter

"I'm good, plus it tastes disgusting and make me feel sick," Tori told Damon

"What you did today was dangerous Tori. Katherine could have killed you. Next time, if ever you are in a situation where Stefan or I or anybody for that matter tells you to run, you run. What were you thinking?" Damon started yelling in a panic, when Stefan told him about Katherine and her strangling Tori before hitting her on the head. Damon felt his heart drop in fear.

"Damon, can you save the lecture for some other day. Please, I am exhausted,"

"Tori, I have been scared shitless and stressed more times these past few days than my entire existence," Damon told Tori. Tori seeing the worry in Damon's eyes felt guilty for putting him through that

"Sorry," Tori said

"Tori, I lost you once, I don't want to lose you again. So please don't be reckless with your life," Damon told his daughter

"Is Stefan okay?" Tori asked she was worried about him after the day he had. Katherine really wrecked Stefan and Damon.

"No, he is still his boring pain in the ass self," Damon told his daughter with a slight smile as he lay next to her on the bed. Tori rolled her eyes at Damon's answer. "I guess he had a bad day too, Elena and him are having relationship issues," Tori looked at Damon in worry when she noticed a subtle hint of happiness on his face.
