Meredith stretched her exhausted body out before rolling over to reach out for Derek but was met with an empty bed. Forcing her eyes open, she frowned when she sat up and realised that Annie was no longer in the room either. She listened out for any noise coming from downstairs but was met with silence.

She reluctantly pushed herself out of the bed, grabbing her robe and wrapping it around herself, before heading downstairs. Looking in every room, the frown staying on her face when she failed to find Derek and Annie. Walking into the kitchen, she yet again was met by nobody but she decided to grab herself a coffee before carrying on.

As she poured the coffee into the cup, she heard Derek's voice as he spoke softly to their daughter.

"Hey." Meredith smiled as the two of them walked into the kitchen. "Where have you been?"

"We went for a walk, didn't we?" Derek cooed down to Annie as she smiled up at him and grasped his finger in her small hand. "She woke up early and I know you haven't been sleeping much, so I gave her a bottle and then we went for a walk so you could sleep in."

"You didn't have to do that." She smiled up at him as she moved next to him and placed her hand on Annie's stomach. "But thank you."

"Of course." Derek smiled at her before moving to press his lips against hers softly. "Breakfast?"

"Would love some." She nodded and smiled as she took Annie into her arms. "Hey baby, did you have a good walk with daddy? Oh look at you."

Derek couldn't help but smile at watching his girls, it was everything he had ever wanted. Meredith had proven everyone wrong by being the best mother for their little girl.

"So I think I'm going to take Annie to see your mom today." Meredith said as she moved to place Annie in her bouncer before standing back up straight. "Why are you pulling that face?"

"What?" Derek said shaking his head before moving to open the fridge. "I didn't pull a face..."

"Derek..." Meredith sighed and crossed her arms over her chest watching as Derek turned to face her.

"Lexie is going to see ma." He whispered as he reached up to rub the back of his head.

"What I didn't quite hear that." Meredith tilted her head and stared at him.

"Lexie..." he sighed, knowing where this was going to go. "She is taking Noah to see ma..."

"Oh..." Derek watched as Meredith's face dropped and her arms dropped to her side. "Ok, I'll just go tomorrow." She sighed sadly.

"Mer, why don't you just go?" He watched as she looked at him with confusion. "I mean I know how much you miss Lexie and maybe it's time to just get past all of this."

"Derek, you heard what she said about us, about you..." she said as she looked down at the floor. "It's not that easy."

"Mer." Derek sighed and moved to stand in front of her, cupping her face in his hands. "Lexie said that because she cares for you and loves you. She doesn't hate you, I mean she definitely hates me right now." He smiled when he finally heard her giggle before she moved into his arms and rested her head against his chest.

"Just talk to her." He said as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. "Or I can go talk to her, clear the air..."

They were interrupted when Annie squealed loudly causing the two of them to pull apart and laugh at their daughter.

"I'm sorry are we not paying attention to you." Meredith cooed as she made her way over to Annie, watching as the little girl kicked her legs in excitement. "Come here." She leaned down and took Annie into her arms once again.

"It will all be alright Mer." Derek said as he started making their breakfast, smiling at her as she smiled at him before looking down at Annie.

"I'm just going to go change her, I'll be back down in a minute." Meredith looked up at him and gave him a quick smile before walking out of the kitchen.

Derek sighed, hating how sad Meredith still was. She would never admit it to him but he could see it in her eyes, the sparkle still missing from them.  He knew this was his fault, that the only reason they argued was because of him. He had to fix this.

Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he dialled Mark's number and waited for him to answer.

"Hey man." Mark whispered into the phone.

"Hey, sorry to call you." He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "But I need your help."

"Yeah, with what? Is Grey alright?" Derek couldn't help but smile at hearing how concerned and how much he cared for Meredith.

"Yeah, it's just that I want to try and sort things out...with Mer and Lexie. So I was wondering if you could help me meet Lexie, like tell her that you want to meet her for a coffee but I'll be there..." Derek cringed when he heard Mark sigh.

"You know if this backfires then Lexie is going to make me sleep on the couch right? But yeah because I hate seeing Lexie like this, I mean she really is missing Grey and Noah keeps asking for her." Mark sighed. "Just don't mess this up."

"I won't. Thanks Mark." Derek smiled.

"Yeah yeah, look I've got to go. Noah has been a nightmare lately and he keeps trying to drop everything in the toilet." Mark chuckled down the phone before they quickly said their goodbyes and hung up.

Derek had to admit it, he was nervous. He was nervous to be meeting with Lexie because he had no idea how she was going to react but he had a lot of making up to do. He owed this to them, to his family, to make up for all his recent mistakes.
