Double Tap. Scroll Down. Double Tap. Scroll Down. This had become a routine. Every night after school and most of the day on the weekends I would get on Instagram and like every pic of Beyonce I could find anywhere. She was every thing I idolized.
Amazing husband, daughter, family that loved her, she traveled the world, stayed out of drama, all while doing what she loved, making music.
Being a singer myself I always wanted to have the life Beyonce had. But coming from the small Caribbean island of Trinidad. I knew the chances of that happening was slim to none.
I wasn't rich, I wasn't popular at school. I was a nobody and my family struggled daily to make ends meet. But that didn't stop me from working hard. 3 Summer jobs allowed me to buy the 4th generation IPHONE I was using at the moment. I could have made it in two but Mama got sick and couldn't work for a while so I had to help out.
"NINA! Come eat. " My mother yelled to me from the kitchen.
I left my room and about 5 steps later I was at the table to eat. Our house was a small 3 bedroom flat so there wasn't any extra room for an entire dinning room.
My little brother and sister were already seated at the table when I arrived. I took a seat as mama gave me a plate. Dinner was a simple meal of curried chicken and rice. Nothing special but it what was our budget allowed.
"Say Grace." Mama demanded. We bowed our head and prayed. As I was about to dig in, I heard my phone Chirp letting me know that Beyonce had posted a new photo on instagram. I immediately got excited.
I unlocked my phone and took a quick glance at the caption, as mama always said no phones at the table.
The caption was simple and read two simple words that would change my life forever;
''Trinidad Bound.''
I almost choked.
