Itto's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some fish lady was staring down at me, a terrified look in her eyes as she pulled Gorou up, pushing him behind her. "Why did you have my General captive? Why's he furry? What did you do to him?"
"Your Excellency, please! He didn't do anything wrong!"
"Then why do I have a warrant out for his arrest from the Shogun? She clearly doesn't care about her citizens well-being, so he must've done something."
"...What?" He looked lost, looking over her shoulder as she hugged him. The betrayal in his eyes smothered any rage I'd felt. "...You're the gang I was supposed to look for."
"Didn't you read the brief? The "Arataki Gang," led by Arataki Itto."
"I... Excuse us - put your weapons down."
"But General -"
"No. Put the weapons down and set them up in one of the new cabins. Stand guard, but do not harm them," he ordered, slipping out of Fish Lady's arms and pulling me up. "We'll talk later. Stay put," he whispered, brushing me off a little before stepping away. "Understood?"
"Sir yes sir! Long live the resistance!" His tail swished - a clear sign of distress that I couldn't help calm - as a fist landed over his heart.
"Long live the resistance," he and Fish Lady mumbled before stalking away, though she was still hugging him. I didn't get to watch much longer before a spear poked me in the back and we were ushered forward. Daisuke was crying, so I had to risk them getting mad just to pick him up and quell the tears. The instant they locked the door behind us, the boys started planning an escape.
"We could take them. I knew that dog dude was weird!"
"No he's not!"
"Boss, he literally got us imprisoned!"
"He couldn't have known! Just shut up and relax. Get some rest."
"Really? Could it have been that someone got blinded by soft fur and smiles?"
"Genta. This isn't the time to question me. If we're still stuck when night falls, we'll leave. Just... Just sleep or something." He took Daisuke and laid down, glaring at the wall until he fell asleep. Akira and Mamoru followed suit, leaving me and Granny Oni to sit quietly at a table in the middle of the room.
"...I'm going to make tea."
"Granny, please, I don't wanna talk."
"Too bad." So I stewed in my anxiety while she made some tea from her luggage. It didn't take long, maybe fifteen minutes, for me to end up sipping the tart drink anyway. "So. Why're you so worried?"
"...If my trust in him ends up with you guys getting hurt, I'm gonna feel terrible."
"I don't think it will."
"Why? He's a general, so what if he decides we're not worth the trouble and we get executed? What if he thinks I was using him and kills me? I-I can't protect you guys if I'm dead!"
"Itto, honey, you know him better than any of us. Do you really think he'd do either of those things?" I could hear her sips as I thought - my first answer was far too quick and loud in my thoughts.
