I put down my hammer on the work table. 'That was the last one, Gobber. Can I go now?'
'Yes, yes, go ahead, I'm sure you have a lot of important dragon stuff to do as always.' Gobber said while writing down a customer's order.
I walked down the street towards my house. Just when I walked past the tavern I saw Emil in the distance.
Shit, I look awful. I turned around, but Emil had already seen me. I was sweaty, had ashes all over my face, my hair was hanging down and I wore my work clothes.
'Hey Hiccup!' Emil started running towards me.
'Hey.' I said, it sounded kinda sad. Emil gave me a strange look.
'Something wrong?'
'No, no, I'm just tired.' Which was one reason. 'I just finished work.'
'Smith right?' We started walking towards my house.
'Wasn't that obvious from the way I look? I look like a soaked yak.'
'Uh, yeah, I guess. It's not that bad. Ok, it is, but I don't mind.' Emil laughed.
A smile appeared on my face. 'You can't always look your best.' A short silence followed. 'I wondered, what are you planning on doing here? Or are your parents gonna pay everything? Lucky you in that case.'
'Oh right, I had my own clinic in my former village so I could do that or help your healer.'
I looked at him with big eyes. 'Your own clinic? With no mentor? At your age? Nice try.'
Emil shrugged his shoulders. 'What? It's true, I had a mentor, but last year I decided to start for myself. I'm eighteen by the way, so I'm not that young.
'Yes you are that young! Why not work together with your mentor?'
'Well, I did not agree with her all the time.'
'Whut? So you are just as stubborn as a Night Terror: I'm only eighteen but I think I know it better than my mentor with decades of experience?'
'If you put it that way... it sounds bad. But my clinic was running fine. Most people prefered my mentor, but if she was busy, they would come to me and everyone was satisfied.'
The path in front of us slowly became more illuminated until we stopped walking. We were at my house. 'What would you prefer, start your own clinic or help our healer?'
'Well, it's likely we won't agree. My methods are quite... new. If we agree I would love to work together but otherwise, I'll start for myself. Either way, I hope I can learn from her. I'm sure she has knowledge that would be useful to me and vice versa.'
'Well good luck. If you start your own business it's gonna be rough. Nobody knows you, except for us then.'
'I'm not afraid of a challenge.' Well, he was surprisingly confident. First he was a bit shy but that was all gone now.
'Alright, a fighting spirit I see, well I'm gonna go inside now, I'm pretty tired. This evening I'm going to head out with Toothless to find some more fishing places, so I guess I'll see tomorrow then at the dragons race, you're coming right?'
'Hmm, sure, I'll be there. Bye.' Emil smiled and lifted his chin up while saying that. I'm glad he didn't do that while we were talking, cause I was melting on the spot.
That was interesting. A healer and probably a good one. I wish I didn't look so horrible today though. Meanwhile he looks good as always. I don't think it's even possible for him to look bad. Looking forward while talking to him, instead of looking him in the eyes makes me a bit less nervous.
