Zora
"hey pretty boy" I whisper in Steve's ear causing him to jump lightly.
"You scared the shit out of me Zora, what are you doing here?" He whisper shouted while he put a book back on the shelf that must've belonged to the library.
"I could ask you the same thing? We both know you don't read books Harrington" I teased him earning a punch on the shoulder making me say ouch.
Before I was able to ask anything Steve went on a whole rant about how he got in trouble and is now forced to rearrange the books in alphabetical order. I thought that was the librarian's job but apparently, it's his now.
"So what's the real reason why you're here?" Steve arched his eyebrow tapping his finger against the bookshelf. He looked like a mom while leaning on the bookshelf, must've been the posture.
"Well, you know just wanted to check on how you were doing and where you were?" I tried to sweet talk him a tiny bit cause I felt a bit bad.
"Cut the bullshit, Zora what do you want?"
"I was wondering if you could drive me and Lani to Carol's Halloween party. We don't have a ride and we both know-" I was going on until Steve cut me off.
"I'm done being chauffer Zora, I already drive the kids around every day, and they aren't even paying me gas money" Steve rambles while running his fingers through his for like the millionth time.
"Steve come on, please? You know I barely even show up to parties and neither do you. Plus it's Halloween" I pleaded to try to give him a genuine smile. We started there in complete silence for 30 seconds until he said something.
"Is nancy going to be okay with this?" He spoke in a lower tone fiddling with his hands a bit. He didn't even make contact anymore he seemed more nervous. I decided to grab one of his hands to be more reassuring.
"Nancy will be fine. Plus she can't control the people I talk to. You're always going to be one of my closest friends Steve nothing changes that" I said in a sincere tone making Steve ease up a bit. It made me feel a little more hopeful.
"Alright fine I'll drive you both to the party" He breathed out causing me to jump with happiness.
"Thank you so much, Steve! I promise I'll pay you back later" I hugged him tightly causing him to pat my back. I thanked him once again before the school bell rang.
