"It's been a few weeks since that conversation, and I can't tell if life has improved or worsened. Was he different from me? He was distant but didn't bully me anymore. He broke up with Lani or stopped talking to her, which drove her insane. She always blamed me and swore I did something, but that doesn't faze me, as it's her habit. Back to Billy, It's always this thing with him and me. We share semi-intimate moments, like talking in the car to strangers. It's the bittersweet thing, even though it's happened thrice. No strings are attached, but now you have my thoughts lingering about you. Lately, I have been kept up by my nightly thoughts about him, which have never happened, not even with my ex-boyfriend. I don't let things bother or distract me, especially in an emotional context. I get over it in like a week...or I never do and do not think about it. I have so much going for me; I don't have time to think about boys, especially when I have an annoying little sister and a semi-negligent mother. About my sister, I had to pick her and her friends up from the woods, saying they were looking for Dustin's pet lizard. Mike said it was a demagogue or whatever that is and how you spell it, while Dustin begged to differ, saying it was his beloved pet...spike? I can't remember his name. I was too tired and just yelled at them for being so reckless for being out in the woods this late at night. My sister became more distant that night, but she's been a bit nicer. She tells me she loves me or says I look pretty. It's weird because she's never said anything nice. She compared me to the creature in the Black Lagoon. Maybe she's growing up." I close my book as I hear my door open and see my sister Raven at the door.
"Nancy, Myra, and..Lani is out front to go winter formal dress shopping with you." Raven made a disgusted face when she said Lani's name as if her name manifested a rancid taste in her mouth. She despises her.
I got up and headed downstairs. Before I left, I shouted, "Raven, when the boys and the girls come, make sure they don't leave a mess. Remember, the girls are welcome to spend the night with permission. I left money for food in the kitchen and locked the door behind me, please!" I waited to listen for approval, and she heard me.
Suddenly, I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and walk out the door, waving at the girls. Everyone has a joyful expression while Lani sits in the passenger seat, putting on lipstick. When heading to the car, I hear the front door open.
"Have fun, be safe, and make sure Lani doesn't get herpes while you guys are at the mall," Raven teased before shutting the door. I fret as I entered the backseat after Raven's snarky comment.
"Your sister is such a bitch, no wonder she gets bullied" Lani smacked her lips while rolling her eyes.
"I guess you two could be sisters." Myra shrugged, earning a hit from Nancy and a nasty glare from Lani.
"Guys, can we not? This is supposed to be a fun girl's day. We have a whole day of shopping ahead of us, plus you're not about to drain my energy in my car," Nancy huffed before driving off to the mall.
