A year after the killing game. After I graduated.

And I found myself sitting at the desk of the boss. The boss of the police.

He looked at me with eyes that can make you feel comfortable with him in seconds. But I kept my guard up. I looked at his name on the desk... uh... what was it called? Whatever.

The 'thingamajig' has the words "Makoto Naegi" imprinted on it. That name is well-known. He came from the first-ever killing game similar to mine; Danganronpa.

His was named 'Trigger Happy Havoc' when mine is labeled as 'V3' or 'Killing Harmony.'

And he's looking at me. Directly at my eyes. I wanted to break eye contact right now... can this guy stop that already?! He inhaled, getting my attention, and finally spoke.

"You're Kokichi Ouma, right?" He asked. I grinned and nodded. "Yup! The Ultimate Supreme Leader of a killing game that does not exist!"

"Okay. Good. Because I have a job on the list that you should take!" He offered to me as he slid a sheet of paper in my direction. I read it in confusion until the word 'detective' was in view.

"Detective? Me? Come on, I'm pretty sure you already have a good detective in your enforcement, don't need to drag another citizen to replace her!"

"Kyoko Kirigiri is a busy woman. Sure she is the best and one of the fast detectives that we know, but she can't do all cases at once. We have other detectives too, but we need another smarter detective to join our force."

"What for? Solving a big case?"

"Precisely. Here. Read this."

He slid another sheet of paper, and I read it without even picking it up. I scanned the page and gave him a raised eyebrow. "The Five Snakes? You want me to take that case?"

"It may be easy when you read the description, but in reality, they're hard to find." Makoto said. "And since you familiarize in 'theft' and 'sneaky' plus the 'smart but does not admit it' and all those things that fits you entirely, I find that you should take this."

That...was offensive. "I am smart! You shouldn't underestimate my brainpower!" I huffed.

Makoto laughed. "Ah yes, I meant that 'you know everything but let other people do it for you' since you're... a liar." He hesitated on the last part. I waved it off. "That's me!"

"Back on topic," Makoto said, and he stared at me. "Will you take the Five Snakes case? You don't have to be a detective-"

"I'll take it," I said without even thinking. "... and I'll consider being a detective for this case."

"Really?! That's amazing to hear!" Makoto shined up and smiled at me. It's a sight to see, really. If, I can see that bright smile of his; it literally made all my negative feelings disappear too. Temporarily, anyway.

The boss stood up from his chair. "Just sign this and you're good to go to be a detective! Who knows, maybe for a lifetime or just a short while!" I went back to the application on the desk and grabbed a pen to sign it, still dazed until I found myself standing at the entrance.

I did not expect myself to accept the case.

What makes me want to accept it?

Furthermore, why did I accept it?

Hey, whatever the nurses and doctors injected us in our bodies, screw them. Now I am saddled with thoughts that even I can't answer.

"Hello, Ouma." a monotone but feminine voice called out to me. I turned around and is greeted by a lady with straight and long lilac hair with a braid on one side of her face. She kept a serious expression, but she managed to break a little grin.
