A threat of rain was on the horizon as a pair walked down a dusty, well-travelled road. A promise of payment was the only thing keeping Sîrion from leaving, or at least that is what he told himself. He wouldn't admit the wild-haired girl walking beside him was slowly becoming a friend. Someone he had begun to trust and genuinely enjoyed the presence of, even if he shoved it down deep.

"Are you just going to frown and brood the entire walk? Or will I get the honour of a conversation this time?" Fiâin teased, twirling a small knife in her hands as she walked.

Sîrion didn't answer, eyes set on the path in front of him. It wasn't uncommon for this to be how the walks back or even to jobs went. Silence, just as Sîrion liked it. The constant chatter in his head was enough. He didn't need someone talking his ear off and expecting a response to focus on as well. Unfortunately, he had mistakenly indulged the girl a couple of months prior on a hire that went exceptionally well. He was in a decent mood despite facing off the foul orcs. He usually felt a wave of unbridled burning anger before and a cold emptiness after. But not that day. And so he spoke, learning much about the girl though offering little about himself. Nevertheless, it felt nice to have a conversation that wasn't about his work, and he didn't entirely regret it... at least that is what he was repeating as Fiâin continued to try and spark a conversation. He sighed heavily.

"Aha! That was something! Certainly something better than silence!" Fiâin exclaimed, "We have a long walk ahead of us, Sîrion, and I would rather not speak to myself the entire time."

"I would rather you not speak at all," Sîrion responded, picking up his pace.

"Yes, well, that will not be happening, especially since now I know you are not just a shell of an elf with no conversational skills." He could hear the smirk on Fiâin's face.

He thought for a moment before sighing heavily again. Throughout working with Fiâin on the many different jobs they had both been hired for, he knew two things for certain. One, she was absolutely terrifying when angered and two, when she was frustratingly stubborn. More stubborn than any dwarf he had met once her mind was set.

"What do you want to speak about," His voice was edged with annoyance though the girl didn't seem to notice.

"Oh, anything at this point, just no more silence from you!" She exclaimed.

And so, after many grumbles from Sîrion not wanting to talk about anything personal, they settled on the simple conversation of what other jobs they had in the past. They swapped stories, Fiâin giving many more details than Sîrion but she listen intently whenever Sîrion had something to say. It was a nice little chat, one that seemed to satisfy the girl and even almost had the listener smiling.

"You know, you really are not as hard to read as you think you are," Fiâin spoke after a moment of quiet passed between the two.

Sîrion was hoping that after indulging in one conversation, they would have silence for the last hour before arriving at the village despite beginning to enjoy the talking.

"If I ask you to elaborate, will I get some silence after?" He glanced her way a moment.

"Fine," Fiâin agreed, "You could have left me at any time, taken your part of the payment and been on your merry way, but you did not.

Sîrion sighed; he did not like where this was going.

"You are nowhere near as... emotionless as you try to be. Your eyes betray you as well as smaller actions... you are lonely and probably hurting though I doubt I will ever know anything about that," She finished.
