A loud clang startled Sîrion and Legolas. Large grappling hooks were being shot and catching on the wall. These hooks pulled up ladders - covered in orcs - with metal latches to prevent them from being pushed off. Legolas was the first to move, letting loose an arrow. Sîrion smiled widely as it pierced through a rope pulling up a ladder. It fell, crushing many orcs beneath.
"Well done," Pausing as Legolas shot him a small smile.
Alda heard the King yell at Aragorn and Gimli, signalling for them to get back in the gates. The ranger and dwarf had attacked the orc horde outside the Hornburg. Thus, allowing the gate to be repaired and barricaded from the inside. Sîrion heard a man call,
"Master elf!" Sîrion looked down to see a guard holding rope," For Lord Aragorn and the dwarf!"
Sîrion caught the bundle as it was tossed up and nodded his thanks.
"Legolas!" Sîrion passed the rope to the Prince, holding onto one end as Aragorn and Gimli were called for.
Legolas lowered his end of the rope down, grasping it tightly as the two held onto it. Biting back a pained yell, Sîrion heaved back on the rope. He gripped the rope tightly, feeling slightly relieved when another soldier grabbed onto the rope behind him and began to pull as well. Legolas let go, pulling Aragorn over as Sîrion hurried to help the dwarf. He favoured his right arm despite his hand still not being fully healed, shaking his head. It was almost amusing at how many injuries he had sustained on this adventure.
"I'm fine! Let go of me, lad!" Gimli stumbled over the wall.
Sîrion put his hands up in surrender. Aragorn patted the listener on the shoulder. The four looked into the keep as Theoden and his man began yelling for everyone to retreat into the castle. Aragorn moved first, ushering for the remaining elves and men to get inside. Sîrion pushed Gimli towards the ranger, ensuring he wouldn't run into the fray while the rest were leaving. Legolas didn't move, looking out at the mass of orcs still outside of the fortress.
"It's as if we haven't been fighting," Legolas muttered, a far-off look in his eyes.
A sharp pang went through Sîrion's chest, "Come, Legolas. We must not despair yet," Sîrion brought his hand up onto the Prince's shoulder and turned him, so they were facing each other, "Let's get inside. Help where we can."
Sîrion knew his words weren't the most comforting, but it seemed to help the Prince a bit as his eyes lifted with the slightest bit of light. Legolas nodded, crossing his arm over his chest and placing his hand over Sîrion's. An arrow whizzed past Sîrion's ear, quickly reminding the elves that they were indeed still in the middle of battle. They turned, beginning to jog towards the door with the last bit of men and elves. Sîrion's hand rested along Legolas' lower back, subconsciously guiding the Prince to safety.
The doors shut as soon as Legolas and Sîrion ran in, men began to put wood against it to start a barricade. Aragorn jogged towards the two.
"I thought I would need to go back out there and drag you two in myself," Aragorn glanced towards the door, "A dwarf I'd expected to stubbornly retreat so slowly, but two elves? A surprising sight."
There was a teasing tone in Aragorn's voice, but before either elf could respond, a loud thud sounded from the door. Sîrion quickly picked up a beam left by a table made to help barricade the door in such a dire situation. He passed it to the mass of men weighing against the door to keep the orc horde out. The listener turned around as the King yelled out.
"The fortress is taken! It is over." The King turned to face Aragorn.
The ranger and Legolas had grabbed hold of a bench and were about to bring it over to the blockade when Aragorn let go to continue talking with the King. Alda rushed over, steadying Legolas as he stumbled back with the sudden weight. The listener's hands were grabbing the Prince's shoulders to keep him balanced. Legolas looked up and back at him, the bench still being partially lifted by him.
