We get out the door and Clark morphs into a bat. He is gone before I can blink. A superspeeding demon looking bat.
"It's almost a 3 hour drive. We'll get there quicker using speed. We're lucky it's dark." Victor takes off.
"Remind me to buy a damn plane." With that I take off too.
Speeding across long distances has it's challenges. Little twigs sting and cut. If anyone starts to get weak they need to stop immediately and find an animal. Cars seem to come out of nowhere.
Thud-thud-crash.
We all stop and Victor picks himself up from a pile of rubble. He brushes himself off, "Sorry, need to watch where I'm going, that damn shed got me."
"Let's eat quick. And we're going to need to stop and regroup before we go into the village. It could be a set up. I don't want 1 of us getting caught alone with him."
Clark lands right beside me, "We're 20 minutes away. There is a campground about 3 miles from the entrance to the village. Go there and eat. I will go in bat form now and look around from the sky. I'll see what I can see and meet you all there."
"Be careful man and keep your distance. He is powerful."
Clark nods and we all zoom towards the campground.
Once there the 3 of us easily find animals to drink from. I grab an extra rabbit for Clark.
Victor starts running towards me, "What the fuck. Why is this raccoon chasing me?"
Sure enough Victor has a raccoon chasing him, "People from the campground must feed them all the time. Probably wants food." Jenny is cracking up laughing watching Victor run from it.
Victor leaps up onto a picnic table, "Make it leave me alone."
"Just give him some food."
"Do I look like McDonalds?"
Clark lands beside Victor on the table and catches the rabbit I throw at him. He empties it of blood in 1 gulp. "Thanks. I think Fane's gone. The village is a mess though. It's a fucking blood bath. I think he may have killed everyone. We need to get on the ground and figure out what he was doing there and if anyone survived."
"So we just going to walk in front gate then?" Victor is still staring at the raccoon.
"Yea pretty much. Just keep your eyes open. It still could be a trap. But I didn't sense him at all. I actually didn't sense anyone. But the scent of fresh blood is everywhere." Clark throws the dry dead rabbit at the raccoon. He takes it and roams off back into the woods.
"Has everyone had enough blood? If not the scent of all that blood will throw you into frenzy." I check around for another critter, "We can always use Victors raccoon if we need to."
"You leave Bob alone."
I start to laugh, "Ok Victor with me at the side gate. Clark you and Jenny go in the main gate. Everyone remember, stay vigilant and back out and yell for help at the first sign of trouble." With that we all take off towards the human village.
Victor gives me a concerned look, "He wasn't lying. I can smell the blood from out here. This is going to be bad."
We walk up to the gate, it's all the way open and there is a guard laying dead right inside.
Victor checks him and starts looking around, "Yea, he's not coming back from this. His arm and head are gone."
"Check the guard box right there. I'll check the one on this side."
