"Izuku wake up! It's almost time for the UA exams!" Hisashi yelled up the stairs to his son. Izuku smiled a small smile as he opened his eyes. It was an actual real smile that stayed on his face, however small it was, as he walked downstairs to greet his dad. He ate and got dressed quickly.

A true smile was something that Hisashi had not seen on his son's face for quite a while. After his mother died and he was announced Quirkless at four, it crushed him, not to mention the bullying.

Hisashi worked about three jobs to support the two of them and was aware that Izuku volunteered at the pet shelter and was sometimes paid for it. But despite everything Izuku never once complained to his father and held onto his goal of being a hero.

Now, it was the months of training that Izuku did (more like years since his father had been training him in combat since he was four) to be put to the test with UA's top entrance exams.

Izuku was excited to say, in the least, that he was actually getting a chance at the exams and was striving for his chance to become a hero. Izuku glanced at a picture of his mother on the way out of the house and clenched his fist. He was going to be a hero and help people, to make his mother proud!

He said goodbye to his father and left the house quickly to start the exams that would decide his future as a Hero or a civilian.

......

The exams flew by and Izuku took them with ease. The written portion was especially easy, years on analyzing Heros and other things helped with that. The robots we're very low-grade material and compared to fighting his father who had overseas experience, plus he graduated from UA they were easy.

Next, he just had to make it past the anxious week of waiting for his letter. When it did come it, disappointingly, came as a hologram of All-Might. When he saw the number one hero Izuku scowled but listened. He was surprised to hear that he got first in both exams, despite not having a quirk.

His father grinned and patted him on the back, Izuku hiding his wince with a big smile as he had burns wrapped up.

"You should cook Katsudon for dinner tonight in celebration!" Hisashi cheered. Izuku continued smiling and nodded. Hisashi was a terrible cook so Izuku often made meals, but they saved Katsudon for special occasions. They did that because they didn't always have enough money for the expensive ingredients.

As Izuku walked into the kitchen his father stopped him for a moment. "I'm proud of you Izuku, " Hisashi said earnestly. His father always told him he loved him every day at least but never exactly said he was proud of him.

Izuku hugged his father and quickly left to the kitchen, not seeing the look of shock and love on his father's face. Izuku hadn't physically hugged him since Inko died, hugs often made Izuku remember his mother's hugs.

A comfortable silence hung over the two as they ate dinner, both of them happy over different things. Before bed, Izuku did the dishes and cleaned up the house, smiling as his father ruffled his hair and bid him goodnight.

Izuku nodded mutely and went upstairs, pulling out his phone to text his friend, Hitoshi Shinso. Izuku had grown up around the boy and their fathers hung out all the time. Hitoshi was often made fun of for his Quirk but Izuku was always there to comfort him and remind him it's not the Quirk that made the villain it's the choices.

Hitoshi's father was still kind and loved his son, despite his quirk. Hitoshi congratulated him on passing and said that he had just barely managed to get into the Hero Course. Izuku learned that they both were in class 1-a, conveniently.

......

Izuku was radiating nervous energy, constantly tapping his foot or fingers while he sat in the mostly empty classroom. He had ADHD and could never sit still for long.
