it was two hours after the group had left when eddie and rhiannon first made eye contact that day.

they stared at each other, not even bothering to look away.

"you really can't remember anything from last night?" eddie asked softly. he felt bad about avoiding the girl all day, but he still didn't know how to tell her about the events of that night.

last night, he had realised just how much he had craved to touch her. last night, he had realised what he'd been missing his entire life. last night had been one of the highlights of his life, but he would die before he told her all that.

"i remember drinking a lot, and then we had an ice cream fight... but after that it just feels hazy."
she took a step closer to him, and this time he didn't move back.
"eddie, i know that something must've happened between us last night, but i just can't remember what, and it's driving me insane."

eddie looked down and scuffed his shoes against the dirty wooden tiles. he was contemplating whether he should tell her the truth, or make up something about having a fight or some shit.

by this point of hiding out from the law, rhiannon was getting cabin fever. and eddie being an asshole wasn't helping.

"eddie, please."

"we kissed."

rhiannon did a double take. it's not like she hadn't wanted to kiss him, after all, she'd been nursing a fat crush on him since the first day they met. she just hadn't realised how bold drunk rhiannon was.

"and i know obviously it didn't mean anything, because we were both drunk-" eddie tried to quickly amend, but rhiannon didn't want to hear the bullshit excuses.

"is that how you really feel?" she said bluntly.

"no." eddie answered in a small voice after a moment of silence.

"that's not how i feel either. i mean, i can't remember it, but it's not like i didn't want to kiss you."

eddie was stunned into silence.

the only reason he hadn't told her sooner about their kiss was because he didn't think a girl like her could possibly like a guy like him. now he felt like a fool.

"are you serious?" he asked in bewilderment.

"never been more serious in my life."

eddie moved forward to meet her in the middle of the dimly lit boathouse, illuminated only by the light of the moon. he was taller than her by three inches, so he had to look down at her slightly. he began to lean in, keeping eye contact as both of their hearts beat out of their chests-
