EPILOGUE
[ 9265 words ]

"WELL IF THE ENDING IS this painful then it must not be worth it at all"

"what?", nolan let out a quiet gasp, rory dropped her head to the ground and sighed, she unwrapped her arms from around him, opting to wrap them around herself as she took a step back from the brunet who stood in disbelief.

nolan stumbled on his words, trying to come up with something to say. there were so many things he could say but everything that was coming out of his mouth was gibberish. how could he say anything?

"you don't mean that"

"i — i don't — what if i do?"

"rory, you know you don't"

"so what? does it matter? you're still leaving"

"i'm coming back" he said to her, and this time he meant it. he was going to make an effort to. summer was around the corner, he could spend it there! or rory could spend it with him! point is, they were going to find a way. or at least he would, if she'd let him.

"but what if —"

"what ever happened to rory the dreamer? where is she? rory, you and i both know that if there's a will there's a way. and god, there is so much will."

"sure finals are coming up and we'll be busy but what's after that? summer. we can make plans, we can go on a trip. rory, i'm not going down without a fight and i mean it. i'm going to fight for us this time."

"we don't need to be boyfriend and girlfriend yet for now, we can take it slow. you're my soulmate aurora, we have all the time in the world to create something beautiful. what we have is special, and i'm not leaving here until you know that i will fight for us. i'm not letting go"

"well now you're making me want to give up on us more so you stay here forever", rory remarked before chuckling, nolan rolled his eyes and pulled her towards him again, placing her head on chest and saying

"it's you and me now, okay? no matter how many miles apart. we'll make it. i know we will"

needless to say, it was one of the most enjoyable weekends rory and nolan had in awhile. they were attached by the hip, you literally couldn't pull them apart. they'd probably kill you if you did.

unfortunately, it was time for their inevitable goodbye. unlike the last time nolan left however, rory was there. she was helping him place his, jules, and nicole's duffel bags in the trunk as jules and nicole were saying goodbye to lia and alex. nolan slammed the trunk shut, walking with rory to the sidewalk, hand in hand.

"i'm gonna miss you"

"i'll see you in the summer" he said to her, smug grin spread across his lips as he placed a hand on her chin, giving her a gentle kiss on the lips.

"you better come here or i'll go there and force you in the car myself"

"now see that isn't so bad either"

they exchanged hearty laughs before pulling each other into a tight embrace. it's hard to let go of the person you've come to know as your home, but a brighter, more secure future lay ahead of them. the wait was going to be worth it.

"call me when you get there?"

"i will, i promise", nolan grinned, running his fingers through her brown locks before kissing her once again.
