AS MAURA PULLED INTO the driveway of the small summer house that looked so small compared to the familiar Fisher family's━━Carter couldn't contain her excitement. Her car door practically flew open before her mom could even stop the car, but she didn't have the room to give a fuck.
Because she was about to see the two boys she grew up with━━who would probably throw her in the pool if she dared to admit Belly took their place of being her bestest friends.
She honestly didn't know what to expect when seeing Conrad. Her and Jeremiah's conversations over text when it wasn't summer didn't compare to their late night talks by the beach or on the rooftop of her house. Where she could climb from her bedroom window to a small ledge on her window sill━━up to the roof.
She guesses she will just have to see! Life for Carter was all about surprises━━good surprises for that matter. She hated anticipation or the guilty feeling in her stomach when watching a horror movie, or the feeling something bad was about to happen.
But her birthday was the fucking best.
As she runs to the Fisher's house, she sees Belly being wrapped in a hug by Jeremiah, and a missing Conrad nowhere to be found with no trace of his trail.
Maybe he didn't like the light.
"These bitches are back together!" Carter screamed in the middle of the road before everyone's heads whipped over to her. Jeremiah's eyes lit up and he was the first to charge right at her━━enveloping her in a hug as he twirled her around.
