"STEVEN, I SWEAR TO God, if you look at that phone one more time, I'm putting it in the screening basket."

The Fisher, Conklin, and Aurielle families were all seated in their rightful places at the Fisher's dining table. Carter and her mom joined in on their first dinner like always━━before they headed back to Carter's to play their famous match of UNO.

The problem with UNO is Carter has a very unhealthy obsession with winning. So she can get real competitive.

Carter's mom always let her have her phone at the table. Most of the time they wouldn't even eat together. It's why it felt so nice for her and her mother to sit down not only together, but with everyone else. It's what she looked forward to on the first day. But not as much as the fourth.

"It's just we want to see your beautiful faces." Susanna interjected with a smile as she held her wine glass to her lips.

Carter couldn't stop the food she had in her mouth from going the wrong way as she coughed from her comment. "Sorry━━sorry."

"Carter!" Her mom scolded. "You're being so impolite."

She was seated beside Isabel, with Jeremiah on her left who began clapping her back to free her airways.

   Very fucking aggressively.

"Calm down, Jere━━I'm not that hard to get rid of yet." She retorted with another cough.

Carter and Isabel shared a smile before Susanna continued. "Can dinner be a screen-free zone? You know, like the old days?"

Laurel laughed whereas Steven━━completely oblivious to everything that was going on━━kept his head held down.

"Steven?" The youngest Fisher boy quipped upon holding his arms up avowedly. A perfect shot was fired into the foretold screening basket when he grabbed the device from Steven's hand. "Boom! Nailed it!"

"Okay, okay, okay we get it, you've been working out."

Isabel laughed. "Ooh━━you're just jealous because Jere has a better body than you."

"Uh, no? Actually it's all about the lean look now. Otherwise you can't wear tailored suits."

Everyone laughed━━and as Carter raised her eyes to look at her mom, she noticed she continued picking at her food. Carter feels a weird feeling in her stomach, but pushes it away once Conrad is acknowledged by Steven.

"When are you leaving for training camp, man?"

Silence trickled into the room awkwardly. "Uh━━he quit football." Jeremiah said as he tapped on his glass.

Carter wasn't surprised nor fazed by this. Mostly because she already knew━━but she had a feeling it was so unlike him. He's been the different Conrad she knew since birth, and she and Jeremiah texted all throughout the other seasons━━so when she heard the news, she was stunned.
