Roselyn Belo

Sunday, 6:27pm:

For the rest of the day, I sat anxiously, wondering what Nate meant about the whole truth.

Will he tell them about jail? Not going to a basketball convention? The drugs? The smoking? The alcohol? His tattoos? Everything else he's lied about?

I'm overthinking, I'm happy that I'm off my period now otherwise I would have broken down in tears with so much stress on my shoulders.

Nate left after lunch to do some business as he called it, I went back home and helped my mom set up and prepare for dinner tonight. I was constantly wondering whether Nate would arrive with his parents, but why would he? They would ruin everything he has left for him, destroy him for my family to see and laugh at.

The door bell rings, snapping me out of my trance as I stand by the back window, staring out into the garden. Mom rushes to the door, I leave her be.

I hear hers and my dad's confused questions, Nate replies casually. I turn around, straightening my short, red dress.

Nate walks in alone behind my mom and dad. "Can you believe that?" Mom hisses to my dad, quietly though we all heard her.

I furrow my eyebrows at Nate, hoping for a quick explanation whilst mom and dad take the food to the dining room. "Just leave me to it okay? Everything is going to be fine," He promises, kissing my lips quickly. "You look beautiful, as always." He grins.

I take the time to appreciate the long sleeved, blue button up shirt he wears with jeans and some nice shoes that I hadn't paid enough attention to because mom called for us to join them at the table. We walk there, hand in hand, and take a seat beside eachother. As usual, we all hold hands and dad goes on to say his prayer in Portuguese.

As dinner continues as normal, mom and dad look at eachother questioningly. "Nathan, would you like to tell us why your parents couldn't attend this evening?" Mom kindly asks, raising an eyebrow to my dad.

I found it hard to believe that River and Rito were oblivious to the awkwardness in the room as they scoffed down their meals as if they had never been fed. I almost laugh at the fact.

"Well, Mr and Mrs Belo, they kicked me out." Nate states, right before the doorbell rings. We all furrow our eyebrows, my dad still gaping at Nate.

"I'll get it." Rito says, pushing his chair back to leave and answer the door. It can only be somebody we know, the gate is code locked; close friends and family are the only ones who know the six little numbers.

"They kicked you out?" Dad asks, his face reddening.

"Yes, around three or four months ago-"

"When he got out of jail!" My breathing stops as I hear those words, I look over my shoulder and see Luke standing there, breathless in his own sweat.

"Luke?" Dad questions in confusion.

"Don't listen to him dad." I say, standing up as does he. Nate remains quiet, his fists clenched on his lap as he stares at the table.

"No, Carlo listen to me, I'm telling the truth. I done a background check on him, know how my uncle works in the police department? I saw it, he was arrested for providing a underage party with all types of drugs, he had a gun too but his sentence was dismissed for that. He pleaded guilty for the drugs, and alcohol too! He's not a good influence on Roselyn!" By this point he's screaming at my dad, my eyes are watering and my brothers try to comfort me.

As the room falls silent, my dad turns to Nate, his hard face full of nothing but anger. "Is this true Nathan?" He asks.

Nate stands up, I hold my breath as he turns and faces my dad. "Yes."

I shake my head, bursting with anger. "No it's not, he's lying!" I yell, trying to push away from River - to push Luke out of the house - but his arms are secured around my waist to keep me in place.

Nate walks over to me and cups my face. "Don't you dare touch my daughter." Dad yells, his red face shaking in anger.

"Let it go baby, it's true and you know it." Nate softly says, stroking my cheek bone despite my dad's protest.

I lean into his hand and bite my lip, trying my best to keep the water in my eyes. Nate turns to my dad, calm and collected. "Sir-"

My dad slaps his hand across Nate's cheek. I scream in shock and also anger. "Dad!" I screech as my mom screeches; "Carlo!"

Both me and my mom begin shouting at dad for slapping Nate, River and Rito both shout at Luke for ruining the evening. But again, the screams fall short as Luke falls to the ground, Nate stands there with a face full of anger as he holds his fist. I run to him and take his fist into my hands, trying my best to calm him down.

"I think we all just need to calm do-"

"You," my dad says, pointing to Nate. "I want you out of my house this instant." He orders, picking up his drink to swig it and smash the glass as he puts it back on the mahogany table with force.

"Nate hasn't done anything wrong!" I argue, holding onto Nate's arm as he attempts to leave.

"Apart from lying to my face, spending six months in jail, disobeying me and knocking my PA out then no, he's done nothing wrong." He bitterly chuckles.

I roll my eyes and cross my arms, Nate stays still behind me. "Either he stays or I go with him, your call dad." I shrug, I notice Nate step forward to protest but stops when my dad speaks.

"Fine, goodbye." He says and sits back down at his seat.

I had to admit, it stung that he never attempted to put up a fight. But that's reality I guess.

"Carlo!" My mom shrieks as my brothers both exclaim; "dad!"

"Roselyn stopping being stup-"

"I'm not being stupid, Nate, I'm acting my age and if the man isn't happy, the man isn't happy," I shrug, laughing and shaking my head at my dad. "I can't please everyone."

"Rosa stop, you're not thinking straight-"

"Oh are you in my mind right now Rito? Do you know how I think? No," I snap, holding onto Nate's hand. "I've had enough of you all treating me like a five year old, I'm an adult; I'm eighteen. Let me act like it." I says before walking out of the room, pulling Nate along with me.

I quickly run up to my room to grab my car keys and run back down and out to my car with Nate, giggling with adrenaline rushing through my veins.
