In the next second the lights go out. There is an almost instantaneous response with the crowd of people. The rustling of fabric and a couple of frightened gasps and shrieks could be heard. It only took 15 seconds for the backup generator to kick in and ignite the emergency lights. The emergency lights were not bright but they were enough for me to see the blue son of a bitch coming up behind Sousa. I can say with at most certainty I quaked that blue thing. The Kree had already taken so much from me and I wasn't allowing for that to happen to me again.
I did a quick scan of the room to see about 13 blue people making their way through the crowd of people. It was like they were looking for someone. I just couldn't figure out who. I decided to try and test out and see if it was me they were looking for. If my memory serves me right none of the Kree were ones I had run into with Hive or in the future, so it was quite likely it wasn't me they were looking for. But why not give it a shot, who doesn't like to live on the edge.
I gracefully moved to the middle of the room. I was very careful not to give away my intentions but still made sure to warn the people that may be in the crossfire to move out of my way. I have a vendetta against the Blue Aliens and I didn't want anyone getting hurt.
As soon as I was in position I let out a tiny tremor that knocked out the emergency light directly above me. The loss of that light didn't do anything to impact the overall ambiance of the room but it was enough to alert the enemy of my presence.
The blue men started converging towards my location. I knew I should have been worried because even though there were only 13 of them, the Kree is a race of warriors, they could snap me in half if I wasn't quick enough. But I wasn't worried, I could feel everything around me and I had faced way worse over my time with S.H.I.E.L.D. My powers had also grown like weeds in the past few years.
I'm not going to say fighting the Kree was easy but I was well trained. I knew their weaknesses before they even reached me. It was a quick battle and a lot of me used them against each other, but once they were unconscious I trapped them in bubbles of vibrations. They would make great prisons till we could get them to different ones.
I finally looked around, like really looked around and saw all the random guests had left the ballroom and maybe even the whole avengers compound. I mean that wizard guy was there and he can do the hand spinny thing that makes portals. Although from what I was able to dig up this Wizard guy is a fill in for this other wizard guy named Strange. Apparently the Strange guy blipped.
The remaining people were the ones who were living at the compound. I'm not quite sure why but they were all staring at me. Even Mack and Sousa, who both never stare at me, they know not to at this point.
"What are you all looking at?" I said almost snarkily.
"You just, umm what!" Clint stuttered.
"Just leave it alone Clint." I said. I didn't elaborate and I wasn't going to. If I wanted to see what I had just done I could watch the security footage. I didn't want to have to hear it from someone else.
I wasn't in the mood to be answering questions, or even talking, so I turned on my heels and left. The energy I had had a second ago was rapidly disappearing and I didn't know if I would make it back to my room.
All of the sudden the common room couch was in front of me, I must have made a wrong turn somewhere. But I was too tired to care. I somehow wriggled out of my jacket and managed to get myself situated on the couch before I could pass out. I guess what I had done had taken more out of me than expected.
I don't know how long I had been out for but now I was semi conscious and having deja vu. I could hear Daniel talking with Steve, again. Just like before when Alya had shot me with an icer. I tried to regulate my breathing to keep them from noticing that I was waking up. I had a lot of practice with making it seem like I was sleeping when in fact I wasn't. That's something trauma will do to you. I think Daniel and Steve were talking behind, from the chairs that were for some reason behind the couch. I may have to do some rearranging when I'm here now that I think about it.
"So, how has your adjustment been to the 21st century Daniel?" Questioned Steve.
"Not terrible, I do have to say I haven't really witnessed much of it. I have mostly been out on missions, meaning I was mostly in the zephyr."
"Oh so you haven't quite adapted yet have you."
"No I have not, but I have been getting lessons."
"Let me guess they are from the person currently asleep on the couch."
"That guess would be a pretty good one."
"So what is the deal with you and Daisy if you don't mind me asking. I mean it's obvious you are a couple, but like how did that happen? No offense but you are very different people."
"Now that is a complicated question, one I'm not even sure I know how to answer, but I'll try to. Daisy and I met when she first made her way onto my base in 1955, I had detained two of the agents on her team, and she made her way in claiming she was CIA and was there to discuss the infiltration of hydra into my base. She then proceeded to free her people while trapping me in the same cell they had previously been detained in. She then felt so bad that she ended up saving my life on the day I was supposed to die. From there on we have been a team and we have stuck together through the good, bad and evil." I heard Sousa respond with. Man he spoke with so much love and passion, it weighed heavy on her. I mean I technically hadn't been in a relationship with anyone but Lincoln before she met Daniel. She wasn't used to it.
At this point I was already drifting back into the comfort of sleep, wondering if I would even remember the conversation that had just occurred.
My sleep was restless and dream filled. Well I guess I shouldn't say dream filled because that wasn't necessarily true, it was more nightmares. I know you aren't supposed to remember your dreams but my brain seems to be fully conscious when I dream, even though I am not.
I must have been really restless because I was startled awake by Sousa and Steve holding me down. Not in a restraining way, but one that kept me from tipping the couch over. It was a weird way to wake up though if I were to admit it.
I didn't want Steve to ask any questions, but I knew they were coming. I could see them on his face, he wasn't very good at masking it, I bet he would be the best opponent for poker, one I could always beat. Although I think Sousa may have sensed my reluctance to talk about what happened, so I think he shot Steve a look. The questioning look on Steve's face didn't disappear but he did refrain from actually asking the questions he wanted to.
A couple hours later Steve, Sousa and I were still in the common room. There was an amiable conversation going on between Sousa and Steve, mostly about what it was like in the fifties and trading war stories. They were talking about their past lives, the little things, like different foods or things they miss. I didn't really have much to add to the conversations, I hadn't really been in the cities or anytime earlier than that for too long.
Eventually everyone else, with the exception of Alya and Pepper who had gone to bed a while ago had turned up to the common room. I was now understanding why there were chairs behind the couch. Two conversations could happen at once but you could still be a part of the other one. Then Jemma got up, went to the kitchen and came back with a tray that contained about fourteen glasses. There were also a couple bottles of wine. The glasses and wine were then passed around the room, everyone taking a bot of wine. It was like a normal friend get together. Not one of colleagues, I guess that's what you could call us, getting together after a near death situation, well maybe not near death but definitely a dangerous situation.
The conversations then began to merge. It shifted to one of storytelling, but not bad stories, they were the stories of fun memories. FitzSimmons kept talking about the bus, which were as weird as it sounds, were simpler days. They were talking about the pranks pulled or the learning curves of a team that had never worked together before. Then the conversation shifted to the dumb things the Avengers had done. Which had led to Simmons telling the story about one of their first missions, the one where I went to shoot someone but accidentally disarmed the gun. That one got everyone laughing. Especially Sousa, he had seen me use a gun and I was no longer like that, in fact some people consider me an expert marksman, so Sousa found that story hilarious. The story-telling lasted for a couple of hours before we all started to yawn.
Just before we all left the room Natasha called out, "Group training session in the main gym, 9:00. It is mandatory for everyone including the Agents of Shield." There was a groan from the avengers but you didn't hear anything from us. We were always up to train, May had made us and if we complained well let's just say it sucked to be you.
