Sonic hadn't had any idea how dire things were. It had been a mere week since it was confirmed to be an epidemic, yet so much had happened. The group had been forced to take refuge in Amy's bakery, the streets were devote of any sign of life save the groaning beasts that were now a regular sight.Sonic had tried his hardest to save everyone, and yet he had failed. He had no idea where his friends were. He worried for each one of them, aswell as those he once saved. He could sometimes hear shrieks and pleas for help, however by the time he would rush out to help they would have been bitten and there would have been quite a few of the beasts ready to attack Sonic too. It was as though they knew someone would rush to help. It was more than disheartening, knowing Sonic had failed the entirety of Green Hills.
He watched his friends entertain themself, they often went to shops and things to find food and other supplies, meaning they had found a few games and other things such as drawing supplies. Amy was teaching Tails how to play hearts - using tokens from four in a row instead of coins however - and Knuckles was arranging the beds and other things they had barely managed to grab in their excursions outside. Luckily, Amy had quite a large back room connected to the kitchen that was easily turned into a bedroom.
The days were often filled with anxiety and each creak or small tap put everyone on edge. Sonic always secretly hoped that it was someone they knew like Vanilla or Cream seeking shelter - perhaps even Rouge asking for help. Sonic just needed the confirmation that everyone was okay, although he knew that wasn't the truth. The entire situation had taught Sonic life wasn't as happy as many were once led to believe. It was a miserable existence where everything was down to chance.
The group grew silent, an unsuprisingly common occurrence given the situation. Anything too loud would attract the beasts lurking outside.
Within the silence, the sound of gunshots and shouts were heard, that were then shortly followed by banging on glass and a door being flung open. It was only then that it dawned on him that someone had entered the bakery.
