The group had gathered at the entrance to Eggman's base, shielded by the cover of night. They couldn't use the front entrance - if Eggman was infact responsible, Sonic doubted he would keep such flimsy security measures. This wasn't his usual mediocre antics afterall, this was an actual danger that could change the world as a whole if left unchecked.
Knuckles calmly broke open a vent, the noise surely being enough to alert Eggman's droids of the groups presence. In the contrary, not even an alarm blared. Sharing a confused look, Sonic hesitantly climbed into the vent and pushed forward, landing in Eggman's central office. Deciding it was best, Sonic urged the group to split up and search for Eggman, his droids or any form of evidence he was behind the attack at the beach-side.
Sonic never really entered Eggman's main office, he had merely seen glimpses when sneaking by within the vents or spying on Eggman. If he was caught, he was always whisked away to the rotunned man's lab or holding cell - it depended on what the man wanted to do at that moment. Sonic had found that the mustashioed fiend was a large procrastinator. It had taken him a week of having Sonic trapped before he even thought of what to do. It was actually quite helpful.
The office was desolate, shrouded in darkness with the smallest ounce of moonlight seeping in from the small, high window on the tharthest wall. The entire place seemed ransacked, as though someone had been looking for something in a rush. Stacks of paper and miscellaneous objects were skattered about the floor. Sonic would have assumed that Eggman had been robbed, had the light been on. Eggman always had his lab lights on, as if he disregarded both his secrecy and electricity bill. The lights being off showed some sort of care despite the hurry. The electricity was clearly still working; Sonic managed to turn on the light with no issues. Come to think of it, Eggman hadn't attacked Green Hills for quite some time.
"Guys, I think he took his evidence and ran away." Tails' voice buzzed through the communicators each member of the group carried. Sonic began to rifle through the drawers around him. "No sign of... anything important." He hesitantly responded, noting the questionable items the doctor handled. Why would such a man require voodoo dolls. Wasn't he against witchcraft and all of the like? "I think that's enough of a sign." Amy spoke up, the sound of shuffling comming from her end. "Why would you run if you had nothing to hide?" She suggested. "Can we just leave now? This place is giving me the creeps." Knuckles complained.

A mauve raccoon stood amidst the chaos ensuing on the street clutching a microphone. "It is 12:56pm, mere days after the well-documented suspicious attack carried out by an innocent möbian by the name of 'Silk' - who was pacified very swiftly by 'Shadow The Hedgehog'. Though we do not know what is wrong with him, several of the victims from the attack have turned savage themselves, leaving this utterly disheartening scene in their wake." The reporter raised her hand, encapsulating a scene of destruction; bins, cars and all of the likes were upturned on the street, leaving shards of glass, debris and blood on the once grey concrete.
"Local doctors believe this is the start of an epidemic, something we have seen within the likes of horror games since the very creation of arcades." The Raccoon paused, looking over the camera and at something else, a groan being heard. In a panic, the raccoon began to run. The camera then fell to the floor, an anslaught of limp monsters following, groans and screams were erupting from behind the camera as the camera man was seemingly mauled. The chilling report fell silent soon after, leaving Sonic and Tails to stare at the screen in pure shock.
"What the-" Sonic whispered to himself. "But... we saved everyone-" He turned to Tails, the fox as teary eyed as him. "People must have gotten injured and not have declared them..." The fox mumbled, disheartened. They had made an effort to find anyone harmed and isolate them until the doctors could find a way to cure whatever parasite was spreading. They clearly didn't do a good enough job.
The blue blur picked up his communicator from the coffee table, radioing the rest of his friends. "Guys, meet at Amy's bakery. Save anybody you can... and please be safe."
