The white bat flew over-head, holding the small rabbit as she swooped down and dropkicked a few of the beasts approaching Shadow. He shot as many as he could, resorting to his chaos abilities when the beasts came too close for comfort. "We need to take cover!" Rouge shouted to Shadow, protecting the child in her arms from the beasts. "Oh really? I didn't think of that!" Shadow shouted back sarcastically. The stress of the entire situation had very easily gotten to him after a few sleepless nights.
"Over there!" The bat called and pointed to a familiar building. It was a light shade of pink, darker pinks accenting the door and window frames as well as the striped canopy atop the main window, where cakes and other treats once sat for sale. It was Amy's bakery.
"You fly ahead!" Shadow instructed, roundhouse kicking an approaching beast and shooting another. They were slowly becomming smarter. "Since when did so many Möbians even live here?" The ebony hedgehog added in frustration. Rouge shook her head, flying ahead to the door. She placed her free hand on the handle, the other carrying the poor, small rabbit, and attempted to open it. "It's locked!" She shouted to her companion. "Open it then!" Shadow shouted back in a mix of desperation and frustration, doing his best to divert the oncoming hoard.
The bat reluctantly set down the small child. "Stay beside me." She instructed. The rabbit nodded, eyes unable to look away from the struggling hedgehog infront of them. "Look at me." Rouge panicked, seeing the fear in the rabbit's face. "Shadow will be fine." She reassured, more so to herself than to the rabbit. Shadow was an experienced fighter, except she couldn't help but doubt he would emerge from such a fight without an injury.
Rouge readied herself, angling her shoulder to the door and taking a step back. She ran forwards, colliding with the door and causing a large bang to echo. The door didn't budge despite her efforts. "Again!" Shadow shouted, the beasts were now approaching. Rouge ran at the door again, this time kicking the door, still to no avail. "Mr. Shadow!" The small child shouted in fear, watching as the ebony hedgehog ran towards them with the hoard following. With a deep breath, Rouge stepped back. She charged towards the door once again, the door opening as she came into contact with her and sending her tumbling to the floor.
Before she could compose herself, Shadow had made a dash for the door, throwing Cream into the bakery lightly and shutting the door behind him, locking it. The hedgehog began panting, sitting against the door as bangs and screams errupted from the other end. "You two alright?" Shadow asked the two.
Rouge inspected both herself and Cream, however before she could reply a voice echoed from across the room. "Shadow? Rouge?" It asked, seemingly in shock. Rouge's eyes darted towards the other end of the room and found the owner of the voice, Sonic The Hedgehog. Rouge sighed in relief, getting up onto her feet and walking towards the lapiz hedgehog. "Oh, I've never been so happy to see you Big Blue." She sighed, patting the hedgehog's shoulder. "We thought you skipped town." She added. Sonic shook his head. "What kind of hero leaves people to die?" He reasoned. Rouge hummed in approval. Sonic had always been the heroic type, almost too selfless for his own good - very easy to take advantage of.
"Sorry to barge in like this." She joked "However I doubt any of us can stay long." She tilted her head in the direction of the door, turning towards it herself to find Shadow trying his best to keep the door shut by leaning all his weight against it. Sonic immediatley rushed over to help. "Guys! Grab the furniture!" The lapiz hedgehog urged. Rouge walked over to a small table Amy had tastefully placed in a small corner. She put her hands on the side of the table, finding pushing it would be her best bet, however the table was quickly lifted out of her reach by a familiar red echidna.
The bat had to refrain from hugging the boisterous echidna. She would have never even thought of missing Knuckles, yet here she was. She was happy to see anyone at that moment, even just a message from any of her friends would be enough to send her into a teary fit. No one was fine anymore, no one was safe. Shadow and Rouge had even agreed to leave the other for dead if they were infected; Rouge was of course reluctant however she knew it was for the best given they had Cream with them.
