(Play Song)
"Are you sure?" I ask Matt who stands behind me, his hand resting on my shoulder as we stand in the middle of his living room.
"Yeah...he just opened the front door downstairs," Matt whispers as he takes a second to concentrate on his senses while my own go berserk.
Time seems to slow while my heart starts to race. My knee shakes in antsy as my eyes stare straight to the front door. My head already going through all the possible ways the next minute alone could play out.
The doorknob starts to twist as he plugs in the key making my heart stop and unknowingly stopping my breath.
Matt's wooden front door creaks open and reveals Avi standing on the other side, preoccupied with taking out the key to having looked up yet.
"God! Thor has been going crazy the second we got inside the building, you cooking or something man?" Avi starts to joke before getting jerked forward by Thor who runs up to me, twirling around my legs excitedly.
Squatting down I pet Thor's body that wiggles and bounces around, but my eyes never leave Avi's who's now caught my own eye.
His face falls as well as Matt's spare keys from his hands.
"Hi?" I say with a crooked smile, unsure of what to say to my best friend who I've lied to since the day I met him.
"What are you doing here..." He trails off as he stands there in shock.
"Avi, I can explain." I start my speech as I slowly get back up to my feet, trying to step closer to him but he backs away.
"Russia? Really?" He asks, his voice cracking as his brown eyes tear up.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you when I met you." I try to explain, letting my fake American voice fall out into my real one with a Russian accent. At this Avis, eyes widen before scoffing.
"Everything was a lie. It's like you aren't even a real person. Tell me, is Daeva Novak really your real name?!" Avi yells loudly causing my lip to tuck into my mouth, biting down at it guiltily.
"Yes, it is. Please just listen, I thought I knew whose lies I was telling but..." I speak honestly but he shakes his head.
"How could I even trust that you're telling me the truth?" He seethes at me as a tear leaves his eyes.
"Avi we're friends. I just wanted to protect you, please if you'd just hear me out." I plead as I walk closer to him, this time him not stepping back.
"Friends? Friends?!" He repeats with a loud fake laugh. "Our whole friendship is a lie, Daeva! It's like I've been talking to an imaginary person." He spits venomously causing me to stop in my tracks.
"You don't mean that, Avi. You don't know everything, let me explain." I try to say but he shakes his head.
"You don't need to explain a thing to me. I kept up with the Russian news, over 200 people are dead, all killed in an unexplainable matter. I know it was you." He seethes with a face of revulsion that makes my heart drop.
"Avi-" I start to mumble but he cuts me off with a wave of his hand.
"You're a monster, Daeva! You killed hundreds...that isn't a friend. That's the enemy." He scoffs before throwing what seems to be a bag of Thor's belongings. "We aren't friends, we never were." He scoffs before scowling, "I don't want to see you anymore or hear your pathetic lies." He boils before turning his back and slamming the front door shut with all his strength making a loud bang and the floor shake under my feet.
I let out a heavy breath of air as a sob escapes my lips and Matt's arms wrap around my waist from behind, holding me tight while I stare at the wooden door my best friend just stormed out of.
"He thinks I'm a monster." I wheeze as I run the back of my hand over my tears in an attempt to dry them.
"He didn't mean it, he just needs a bit of time, that's all," Matt whispers into my ear trying to uplift my spirit.
"What if he's right...fuck, what if he's-" I cry but the door opens revealing Foggy and Karen holding small paper bags.
"Welcome back!" They yell in unison lifting up their bags before their faces drop once seeing tears in my eyes and Matt comforting me.
"What's going on?" Karen asks with sympathy in her voice as she enters the apartment but I simply shake my head dismissing her. Slowly exiting Matt's hold I wipe my eyes and put on a wide toothy smile as I hold out my arms.
"It's nothing." I wave off before clearing my throat, "I missed you two so much." I say happily sniffling lightly as Karen gives me a big embrace.
"Us too!" She says happily as she tightens her hold, while Foggy eyes me with concern. Karen breaks the hug and goes to give Matt a greeting while Foggy's hands wrap around my arms and his blue eyes search mine as he whispers "You okay?"
I nod my head with a tight-lipped smile, my eyes still slightly glassy as I give him a hug.
"I'll fill you in later," I tell him lowly before we break apart, earning me a small nod in return.
"Girl how was Russia?!" Karen asks me with enthusiasm as she sits on the couch, her eyes wide in wonder as she thinks I've just had the best 5 months of my life.
I chuckle and feel Matt stare at me tense to see my reaction.
"It was so much fun, really caught up with family I haven't seen in a while," I tell her with a small smile playing on my lips.
"Gosh, I bet." she gushes before patting the couch for me to sit and tell everyone all about it.
However, Avi's words ring constantly in my head as I spend the next hours with my friends.

Avi has just found out the big lie 😟. Definitely didn't take it well, but neither would I, though I would want to hear her out.
