Broke

It has been a week and a half from the whole...let's call it incident. Matt has been on my ass everyday since then, he's not even going to work which has been quite annoying.

I mean I love him to death, but he's suffocating to constantly be around 24/7 with his hovering and asking "You okay" at least twice every hour.

"How bout you go to work today?" I bring up to Matt as he pours me a cup of apple juice. He looks up from the kitchen counter, his face stoic as he ponders my words.

"I don't think that's a good idea..." Matt sighs as he closes the bottle of juice, turning around to place it back in its place in the fridge.

"You said you trusted me, what's the problem?" I ask him with slight aggravation in my tone.

"The problem is you aren't fully healed since you refuse to use your powers to fix your wounds." Matt explains slowly, leaning his back against the wall.

"Is that what it takes for you to go back to work?" I ask him, hopeful in having a moment of peace.

Matt stays silent for a moment before sighing and kicking off the wall before walking slowly to where I sit. He slides his legs between my knees as he bends down to my seated level to cusp my face in his hands.

"Yes." He says simply. A smile etches its way to my lips before I give him a thankful peck on the lips.

"Great, go get dressed for work." I say in a now chipper mood, but Matt is quite the opposite as he nods and makes his way to the bedroom. I watch his retreating figure that has worn the same ratty lounge wear for the past two days.

Suddenly feeling guilty, I follow into his bedroom seeing him standing shirtless in front of his dresser. His work pants hang loose on his waist from the lack of a belt, his white Calvin Klein boxers peaking out right over the waistline of his pants.

A white dress up shirt is in his hands as I can see his fingers fidget with the fabric.

Guilt washes over me as I walk behind him, placing my arms around his waist and leaning my cheek against his warm back.

His breaths are deep as we just stand there for a while, his hands playing with my fingers while my lips give his naked back a consoling peck.

"I can come with you, to work. I was planning on going to talk to Carol at the hospital, but I can wait." I whisper, knowing me being with him would make his day easier.

"You want to go back to work?" Matt questions as he twists in my hold so now his front if facing mine.

"Yeah, I meant it when I said back to normal." I joke with a small smile. "But it could wait a few days." I add with a slight shrug.

"You don't have to do that." Matt dismisses, feeling like a nag but I squeeze my hold around his waist in support.

"I want to." I say with a high voice. "Now finish getting dressed, by the time you're done I should be fully healed." I tell him with a smile before slapping his ass playfully which he gives me a warning glance about.

I chuckle lowly, going to do it again but he grabs my wrist and spins me so my back is to his chest and my arm is pinned painfully behind me.

"If only you put that suit back on." I tease about his quick skills causing him to pull my arm back more, my pain escalating higher on my shoulder.

"Says the one that lost her touch." He whispers in my ear, tugging my arm further back. I let out a fake whimper of pain which immediately makes him let go in worry.

"I don't think I'm the one who lost their touch." I say in a low voice with a smirk before grabbing a few clothes and walking to the bathroom to get ready.

Pulling the light brown halter-top over my chest, I adjust my breasts into it so they don't peak out at the sides before grabbing a pair of loose thin pants to accomidate the 97 degree weather.

"Ready to go?" I yell to Matt across the apartment while he grabs his glasses and walking stick.

"No need to yell." He warns me with a scowl as I chuckle at him and slide my feet into a pair of thick white of sandals, giving me a slight boost in height.

"So dramatic." I say lowly, knowing he can hear me as I grab my black rectangular sunglasses before meeting him by the front door.

I grab his hand before exiting out the door and making our way to 'Nelson and Murdock'.

We walk into the humid office pilled up with small gifts and people flooding with problems by the sound of their overlapped chatter.

Matt pulls me into the office where Foggy and Karen speak privately.

"Bad news is we are broke. As in, literally no money. And our income can't cover our bills." Karen sighs as she shuffles around a few papers on the desk.

"Mine could." I bud in making them both jump not knowing Matt and I were there. "I'm starting work soon so I can help out, I doubt they're gonna trust me to start working full time again with my 5 month leave...but trauma surgeon salary is enough to help, trust me" I tell everyone with a hopeful grin.

"No, no. I can't ask that of you." Foggy tells me while Matt nods in agreement.

"We'll manage. For now we have payment in pastries, food, electric fans..." Karen giggles as she fans herself due to the heat. "And each other." She finishes, grabbing a hold of Foggy's hand affectionately.

"Yeah" I whisper as I feel Matt squeeze my waist.

"Well, I guess let's get to work, then maybe we go to Josies afterwards?" Foggy suggests which we all agree on before getting to work on the people outside's cases.
