Wearing my most professional pantsuit, I fluff down my dark grey dress pants as Foggy helps a wire to be taped under Grottos shirt.
Grotto is jumpy as he stares at Foggy hands go to work, his lips trembling.
"This is the friggen wire you want me to wear?" Grotto scowls fear prominent in his tone as he looks up at me from beyond the room.
"Relax Grotto, you'll be fine." Karen sighs before she walks out of the room, soon Foggy following her when he's done setting up Grottos wire, leaving him shirtless in the room, a long wire taped around his whole torso.
I sigh and kick myself off the desk I'm leaning on, making my way to Grotto as he places a white wifebeater over his neck and through his arms.
He places another white shirt, his fingers missing the buttons he's trying to put together. I grab his shirt and button the rest up, making sure the mic isn't visible.
"Someone thinks you are worth saving, so you'll be safe," I whisper before tapping his chest, signaling I'm done buttoning up his shirt.
"I hope so, sweetheart. Besides I gotta superhero on my side." He speaks slowly with a wink. I chuckle and shake my head at his flirtatious ways before Reyes comes in, speaking on the team is ready for us.
"All we need is for Brass to admit he's dealing drugs again. He doesn't have to say where or to who. Just get him to confirm it." Foggy tells Grotto firmly, so he won't fuck up the whole setup.
"He's got no reason not to trust you," Karen says in a calm voice as she takes a lookover Grotto's form, her eyes trailing over where she knows the microphone is.
"No?! I got a heavy-ass microphone tapped around me!" Grotto scoffs, having a point.
"You came to us to make a deal, Grotto. You wanna walk, then walk. You can easily be replaced." Reyes spits as she straightens her stiff back to seem intimidating.
"I don't doubt that." Grotto sighs causing an approved look to glaze over her face.
"Good then let's get this over with before I change my mind." She says in a bored tone, turning her back to us and walking out the room, Karen and Foggy following her while I hang back after seeing Grotto's face.
"Don't walk away from this deal," I warn him. "You do this, the punisher is off your ass. You'll be safe." I explain.
"And what if Brass puts a bullet in me? Or the Irish got wind I'm working with the cops? " Grotto lists all the worst possible outcomes.
"I won't let that happen, okay? Just don't say anything incriminating." I say in a low chuckle, trying to lighten his nerves.
Grotto nods and takes a deep breath before tucking his shirt into his belt, looking at me once he's done.
"Thank you." He says with a smirk.
"You're welcome," I reply with a small smile.
"Good luck kiss before I go?" He asks, stepping closer to me. I look him in his eyes, my smile never leaving my lips.
I step closer to him and lower my tone, "Good luck Grotto." He smiles to himself as I let him down, he starts to nod slowly with a small chuckle.
"Forgot, you and the blind man." He states jokingly before walking out the door, ready to start the plan.
I watch Grotto exit the secret building from the tape on the cop's computer, the outside cameras catching his every movement from different angles.
"The target is in the perimeter," Reyes mumbles as we sit closer to the computer.
"He's got a name." I scoff under my breath at her comment as I watch Grotto call out for Brass.
Grotto yells words to get Brass to show himself, but no one answers. Only a bang in one of the many containers goes off.
"Bout time, ion got all night jackass." Grotto curses before walking into the container.
"We lost visual." Reyes grunts as her eyes narrow at the footage.
"And the sound, we can't hear him," Foggy adds as he turns up the sound on his headphones, but nothing comes out.
The technicians start to mess with the wiring but an off feeling comes over me, my skin tingling as I think about what's going on right now.
"Overwatch position in effect." One of them calls causing me to stand up straighter.
"What does that mean?" I ask Reyes that sits beside me.
"Let the cops do their job." She scoffs as she stares at the screen. I look at the screen that she is so interested in and notice a small red light that shines. I click the button on her screen, turning the light green and the microphone to turn on.
A glitchy voice screeches "Fields of fire."
"Doesn't sound like cop talk to me," I say with a raised brow, as I look down angrily at Reyes, who rushes to turn the mic back off.
"You set this up as an ambush. Bait for the punisher." I state, my voice growing louder.
"This will be the most honorable thing your client will do in his life." She tells us in a monotone voice that shows she truly has no good in her.
"He is a human being you are putting in danger!" Karen yells while I start to gather my things.
"I am gonna have so much fun suing you." Foggy scoffs as I throw my bag over my shoulder, my suit being stuffed into it.
Loud gunfire shoots out beyond the building creating the perfect distraction for me to flee.
