I felt like my heart stopped the moment she walked into the kitchen.

I felt something rise in me as she looked back at me, still looking more beautiful than ever. No, she got more gorgeous since I last saw her a year ago.

I felt my heart pang in my chest as the memories came floating back. I knew she was here but I was kind of hoping I didn't have to see her so soon.

When Vita walked over to her, I couldn't help but let the thoughts run through my mind.

Does she still have feelings for me?

Chill, Dalton. You just saw her for the first time in a year and that's your first thought?

Vita turned back around and her and Aspen walked up to the counter. I felt the awkward tension in the room as Vita looked back and forth between us.

"Let me show you the room, D." She motioned for me to follow her as I nodded and went to grab my suitcase from the bottom of the stairs.

We left Aspen in the kitchen as Vita took me upstairs, she stopped once we were a little down the hall and turned to me with a serious look on her face.

"Dalton, you need to give Aspen some time, okay? We were drunk as hell last night and I forgot to tell her that you were coming and staying with us. She's fine with you staying here but you guys need to wait to have the talk that we all know you're going to have." She explained to me as I nodded with everything she was saying.

"Got it. I'm still processing everything so I think neither of us are ready to have that talk." I sighed, crossing my arms as she just stared at me.

We both looked at each other as Vita just shrugged and kept walking down the hall. We passed a room that looked like a nursery and I paused, looking inside.

"Oh, I forgot. You haven't met Kayden yet." She suddenly said, coming up beside me and looking into the almost neat room.

"Kayden?" I asked, my brows furrowing as I tried to remember a face to put to the name.

"He's my son, D. Your best friend got me pregnant last year, remember?" She explained to me, walking in the room and putting up the few toys that were on the floor.

I briefly remember meeting him when he was born because I was in town and Luka asked me to stop by. I still remember when he called me stressed out because he found out he got Vita pregnant.

"What did I miss?" I thought out loud, feeling like I had been gone for the most important parts of my friends lives.

"A lot. Don't worry, you'll see him again later. Aspen's going to go get him from Livi's house." She told me as I just couldn't take my eyes off of the baby pictures on the wall.

"He looks a lot more like you now." I told her, looking at a picture of her and Luka together, holding the baby in their arms at Christmas.

Kayden really did take after his mother a lot. Where Vita was brown skin, he was lightskin and almost had the same hair type as her. He really only had Luka's green eyes.
