"Your life's about to change for the better, love will find you, happiness will be your bestfriend, you'll grow remarkable this year" I continue to repeat the words of the prophetess as I sit in traffic.
"Big batty gyal a you mi a talk, who me?" I look over at my cousin Kaylee in the passenger seat as she suddenly burst out singing.
"Ano you just in a church a shout Hallelujah?" I ask jokingly knowing she's going to start arguing then say she's defending her rights.
And trust mi, a she alone have rights.
"Yeh but ano in a church mi dah ya now, ee look like you blind or something" She hiss her teeth as she adjust herself in the passenger seat.
"Oh wow, not even thirty minutes Kay?"
"Yuh lucky, nuh worry bout me, mi neva tell nobody mi a Christian" I shake my head while laughing at her remarks.
"After mi neva sah u a Christian muma" I laugh in between my words at how easy it is to press her buttons.
"But yah behave like so, memba mi man ano pastor son like you eno"
Here we go jumping on my case.
"Done now nuh, ya wah?" I ask rolling my eyes.
"No but mi affi clarify mi self, nuh want nobody dash Christian pah mi" Ever since we were a little girl this is how Kay normally behaves when accused of something even when she's the one who committed the crime.
"Then lady who did a dash Christian pah u?"
" Nuh yuh a behave so, soon run gone up a Alta too " She takes a sip of the water she had thrown down in the car from earlier today.
That must hot and taste bad.
"Lawd ya behave so fah, is something wrong with giving your life to God?"
"Then me neva sah that eno but memba God a watch u so run go turn Christian just fi get ring "
Lawd a wah mi start her up fah.
"We're already engage if you've forgotten " I take a glimpse at the engagement band which sits perfectly on my finger as the diamonds dance under the sun's glare.
"Is either u blind or something eno but as Granny always say tan and see nuh spoil nuh dance"
"I know he's not your favorite person, but once I'm happy I'm ok" I've tried many times to get Kaylee and my fiance to get along but she doesn't even try.
"Mi understand yuh eno, but mi spirit just can't tek him" She takes up her phone, increasing the volume on tik tok signalling the end of the conversation.
We drive in complete silence for a while until we arrive in the lane. As soon as the house comes into view Kaylee makes one of her usual outburst.
"Rahtid yuh Pastor man dah ya" Her facial expression displays nothing but disgust.
Watch who nah come back down stairs till him gone.
If him a go wah, hopefully he wont.
"I didn't know he was coming today "I express my thoughts out loud as I park the car.
" Nuh know why dem nuh keep him up a camp?" She hisses her teeth as she grabs her bag from the backseat.
"Yah johncrow eno " I laugh loudly as I exit the car after her.
"And yuh man a wah?" I stick my finger up at her as I check to see if the car door is locked.
"The love of my life " I smile as I remember that's what my name is saved as in his phone.
"Gawn yah, mussi love cousin that" I shake my head, as I enter the house, making my way to the kitchen where I hear talking.
"Crawford?" He turns around bringing the glass from his mouth to rest on the counter. I've always called him by his last name since the day we met. I somehow dislikes Patrick and Kaylee tends to call me spongebob because of it.
"Hey baby?" He smiles warmly at me.
"I didn't expect to see you today?" I express my thoughts loudly.
"Is it that's why you took so long to come from church? "
"Aughh, no. Kaylee and I just stopped and get some dessert for dinner" he chuckle lowly at my response as he walks up to me.
"Quit sweating, mommy is a good company keeper" Right, mommy gets along with everyone.
"Ooh, hey Mommy "
"So through yuh man dah ya, you just a see mi" I knew she would have said something like this.
Kaylee blood line to rawse.
"Jesas Mommy, you couldn't just say evening and done? "
'After ano belly full, go set the table because Crawford affi go back a work tonight" My heart starts to race suddenly at her words.
So why ya behave shock like yuh nuh know a so him stay?
"So will you still be home Tuesday " I ignore the voice taunting me in my head, trying to get a bit of clarification.
"Auugh, no this is why I came today " No sah, JDF must think yah fi dem alone.
"But you're not staying "
"No, I got some unfinished task to do " Always some unfinished task when it comes to me.
"Oh ok " I try to cover my disappointment with a smile and a head nod. I quickly gather the dishes and set the table. I try to tell everyone I'm happy but honestly I'm not, this has being going on before our engagement and after it, things just became worst. I thought him being engaged to me would have given him a drive in making more efforts to see me.
Wah Kaylee would a sah , I'm a proud yamuate.
I understand that he's a soldier but that shouldn't mean I get to see him once per week sometime none at all. Like why does he have to be on campus without going home for two weeks then goes home for only one day. And to add to that he barely calls me, like I love him but honestly I need a little more of him.
A gud thing yuh nuh give bun to rawse.
Then there's the part where he believes in sex after marriage. I'm not against it but it was never my belief.
Nuh like the puss in a bag something.
I sigh loudly, as I finnish setting the table and helping mom to carry out the dishes.
Dinner is already ruined for me.
