Melody Venus Stone
I slumped out of bed as there was banging on my door. I had a migraine per the alcohol and everything that occurred last night. I open the door to reveal Kate Gordy. Lovely.
"Good morning Melody, well good afternoon now I guess. I never will understand how selling one book, that wasn't even that good in my opinion, allows you to have this big house without a real job and waking up in the afternoon." She laughs. "Anyways, I came over to tell you that you need to cut your grass. It's already three days passed the day you usually mow and your flowers are suffering."
"Is that all Kate?" I say through my one open eye.
"Your puppy was barking yesterday and it was triggering baby."
"Is that all Kate?" I start to close my door and she sticks her foot preventing it.
"Don't think I don't see you and the new neighbor sneaking into each other's houses at night. Does he know about that other man who comes every other month who you're sleeping with?" Kate says WAY out of place.
"Listen here Kate. You need to get off of my property, before I call the cops on your wrinkly ass. Mind your business for once and deal with those crows feet under your eyes." I shoot out of anger.
She moves her foot out of the way as her mouth drops open.
"Oh and Kate, if you just can't get laid just say that." I slam the door in her face.
I grab my phone and notice a notification from Issac.
Issac Drew: Please email me an update by tonight!
Me: Will do!
Issac Drew: The dinner is still on the table.
"Ugh." I groan to myself. "Why me?"
I try to keep it professional.
Me: I don't think taking our relationship anywhere personal is a good idea, Issac. You're an amazing publisher and friend and I would hate for it to not work out between us and ruin that. :(
I make it sound as sweet a turn down could be.
Issac Drew: Oh no! I wasn't meaning to take it to that level. You're too young for my likings and I'm actually seeing someone at the moment. The dinner was just something simple and friendly. In hopes to better our work relationship.
Me: I'm sorry I took it the wrong way then! I appreciate the offer, I will let you know when I'm free and hopefully we can get together!
I still didn't think he was telling the truth but who knows. My Rex baby was dying to go out so I let him out into the back yard. I look at my grass, it was higher than it should be. So much stuff has been going on, I guess I started slacking.
I put on some shorts, a tank, and gym shoes and grab my earphones. I head back to my shed and get on my mower. Backing it out of the shed, I begin to mow my yard. Kate was walking her dog refusing to look in my direction. I felt bad about how I acted toward her, but it's not the first time she's barged in and tried to order me around or implying that I was a whore. Rex was afraid of the mower and waited on my back porch under a chair barking like the big bad wolf from afar.
After mowing and tending to my yard I receive a call from Issac. I hadn't noticed I had three unread texts from him.
"Hello, Issac?"
"Melody! Finally, you answered the phone." His voice sounded annoyed yet excited.
"I'm sorry, I was mowing my yard." I go check my mail.
