Chapter 19

Melody Venus Stone

I woke up to police at my front door. I exhale a breath of relief. I smile when I see them. My smile falters and becomes forced when I feel the sharp blade of a knife against my skin.

"Can I help you officer." I say with my voice shaky.

"We received a call that you have an intruder in your house. Are you alone in your home?"

"Yes I'm alone." I lie.

"Do you mind if you we have a look around?" He nods back to his partner.

I nod hoping I would be saved. I wish Kalani was here but I remembered she told me Sawyer was coming sooner than expected and she had to drive hours to get him. I look past the officer and notice Elliot standing on his porch. He was worried. I turn away as the police come inside. They look around and I follow them around the house. He was no where to be found. No I feel my heart drop. This may be my only escape, I'd be damned if I let the opportunity escape.

I grab the nearest cop by his arm and pull him to the side.

"I'm not-

"Hey babe. What's going on?" Colt comes out of the room with the other police.

"I-

"We received a call that there was an intruder in the home." The one who I was still gripping his arm informs him.

I couldn't let go. I couldn't let this chance go. Colts eyes are glued to my hand touching the officers.

"I thought you were alone, ma'am?" He looks down at me.

"I-

"She thought I had left for work already. I didn't tell you I got the day off for our anniversary. I wanted to surprise her."

It actually was our anniversary. I mean it's not, but if we were still together it would have been four years today.

"Colt you didn't tell me you were dating the author of Sincerely, Unfavored!" The officer by Colt slaps his back. "Janice loves that book."

I let go of the cops arm. At this moment, I knew I was screwed.

"You know him?" I whisper.

"Oh yeah, Colt and I are first cousins. This was my best friend growing up." He says and I instantly go back into my sunken place. "Can I get your autograph, please? My wife loves your work."

I walk and grab a piece of paper. I write help on the back for whatever it's worth. I write a sweet message for Janice and sign my name. I hand it back and go into my bathroom with the broken door. I sit on the seat and cry. I hear the door shut and Colt comes to the bathroom. I don't raise my head when he comes back, I continue to cover my face.

He punches the bathroom wall creating a hole and I jump in fear. "That was stupid of you Melody. So stupid!"

"It wasn't me Colt, I was by you all night. I never left." I hug my knees. "You destroyed my phone."

"Don't think I didn't see how you were holding on to that cop. Do you know him? Huh? Are you screwing him too Melody!?"

"No Colt, I promise." I whisper.

My front door creaks as it opens and Colt leaves the room. I stand up and walk slowly towards the living room.

"Mel?" I hear Elliot's voice and I wince.

"Who the fuck are you?" Colt glares at Elliot who was standing in front of the door.

"Who the fuck are you and why are you in Melody's house?" Elliot steps to the side to see me.
