Suffragist- A person (mostly women) who protested and fought for women's rights

Curling tongs- The 1912 term for a curling iron

Icebox- An early refrigerator and in 1912, a term for a freezer

Cylinder Phonograph- an early way of listening to music using a wax cylinder and needle

Tooth Powder- An early form of toothpaste used in the 1910s

Washbasin: A pitcher and bowl used for washing one's face among other things

Morning Wrapper- A type of robe worn by rich women in the mornings

Darkies- A racist name given to slaves and freed people

Lynching- The torture and murder of someone (usually a colored person) by a mob (usually white). Was more common in southern America

Super-white- a name for white supremacists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries

Ragtime- A type of swing music in the early 1900s, which then evolved into dance

Transvestite- The original term for a transgender person. Now means someone who cross-dresses

Spitbox- A nickname for cake mascara

Bush arbor- An area covered/surrounded by trees or branches used for a specific event

Happy Families- The original Go-Fish

The skinny- The news/information

Cash drawer- The old name for a cash register

Christmas paper- What was used to wrap presents before wrapping paper

Grafonola- An early type of record player produced by Columbia
