(author's note: I wanted to set the story further back in the timeline so i changed Leah's love interest to Val lol)

After biding fairwell to the Birch's parents as they departed from their couple's outing, Leah's friends and Nick's friends, were spread around the second floor of the house presumably finding something to eat for breakfast.

"Hey uh, y/n?" Nick asked, approaching the girl on the couch in the living room.

"Yeah little man?" she replied with a smile.

"You were here all night right?"

"yeah...?" y/n replied, raising an eyebrow.

"So does that mean those two fat bruises on your neck are from...."

Y/n's eyes widened as her hands flew up to her neck.

"Not a word." She said gravely.
"Swear to me you want say anything to Leah!" She whisper-yelled.

"I swear! I swear!" Nick said with his hands up. Quickly y/n rushed to the guest bathroom and sure enough there were two bruises on the upper side of her neck. The thing was, she wasn't even worried of what her parents would say, she was more worried about Leah finding out she hooked up with her brother.

As quickly as she could, y/n rushed to Leah's room and back to the bathroom, trying to cover  the bruises as best she could with concealer. She was a little nervous when she exited the bathroom, but it was better than nothing.

She didn't see judd at all that morning, or when she finally took her car back home to her own house. To her luck, with the cold temperatures outside and christmas on its way, wearing a turtle neck inside her house wouldn't confuse her mother at all. She didn't necessarily think her mother would mind, but she didn't want to participate in the conversation that would follow.

Once in her room, she sat down to organize everything she had to do in the next week. It was sunday, both showings of the yearly musical (and usually the biggest turnout) were that friday, and y/n had evening practice everyday that week leading up to. Which meant she had to get a jump on her schoolwork now if she wanted to keep her grades up.

"Heyyyyyyy" A voice whispered through the crack of her open door. It was her mom, holding a plate of sliced apples and grapes.

"Hi mom." she giggled. Moving her bag aside on the bed so her mom could sit down next to her.

"I barely see you these days, everything okay?" She asked, handing y/n the plate.

"Yeah, just been busy getting ready for the show."

"And what about that boy that dropped you off last week?" Her mom asked.

"Mom." Y/n laughed.
"He's just a friend. Now if you'll excuse me, i have some school work to finish."

Her mom laughed, getting up from her spot and leaving the room. And true to her word, y/n spent the next couple hours at her desk working ahead for the next week. It was well into the night when she finally looked up from her work, hearing a soft tapping at her window.

After a moment, she ignored it. But then she heard it again, but this time accompanied by some squeaking. Leaning over her desk, y/n couldn't see whatever it was outside, so carefully she opened the window, and suddenly something small, black, and round rolled into her room.

It was the raccoon from a few nights ago. Y/n smiled, scratching his head affectionately, giggling as the little thing basked in the attention. She noticed he had a note attached to his collar. Pulling it off, she unrolled the small piece of paper.

"The little shit missed you so i thought why not send a note with him. I guess I'll come and see your dumbass show, I'm being forced to go because Leah is in it, it better be good. But don't burn yourself out between rehearsals and schoolwork. I'm serious. If you pass the fuck out on stage i'm gonna laugh.

I'll probably see you at school tomorrow. Don't feed my fucking raccoon.
—Judd"

Y/n was smiling wildly at this point. There was no way Judd birch wrote her a note about not overworking herself. She took the note and carefully taped it to her dresser mirror. Turning back, she lifted the raccoon, kissing his forehead softly.

"I'm not sure if judd is expecting you back soon, but you can stay the night if you like, just keep out of sight from my mother." she said, sitting him down. Y/n almost sat back down at her desk, but heeding Judd's warning, she decided to call it night.

Curling up into bed with the raccoon at her side, she went to sleep thinking of the days ahead.
