"You and me
Underneath the evergreen,
Rosy cheeks,
Holding hands while the snow is falling...
Hold me so,
Stay under the mistletoe,
No, don't go..."

As the Heathrow airport grew closer with the setting sun, my obnoxious feelings grew deeper.
I couldn't tell if I was mad or glad that Toby was leaving. Right then, his head was rested against my shoulder and his eyes were closed. But he was dreamily talking to me, a lopsided smile joining his words. His hands animatedly acted out his made-up scenarios. Then one dropped into my lap and his fingers interlaced with mine.
"I'm gonna miss you," he barely whispered into my sweater. His thumb rubbed over the back of my palm.
"Yeah? I'm gonna miss you too." I smoothed my free hand through his fluff of dark brown hair. He nestled his body closer to mine.
The car hummed lowly beneath us. It was just Ben, Sophie, Eiliene, Toby and I in the car. Everyone else had either driven themselves home or had taken a ride with us. And now our last guests were departing.
The song playing softly on the radio made this whole scenario feel like we were in a movie. Something bittersweet about the aesthetic. Something that I might miss once it was gone.
"It's not the end of the world, Cal." Toby said, sitting himself up straight and opening his eyes to look at me. I glanced at him, then back out the window.
Ben pulled into a spot in the airport parking lot and he cut off the engine of the car. There wasn't much time between when the heater was shut down and when the cold December air creeped through the doors of the car. All 5 of us unbuckled our seatbelts.
"Here we go," Ben said, opening his door and stepping out. The rest of us followed suit, Toby keeping his hand locked with mine.
We walked with relatively similar steps, our arms swinging with the same amount of force. Toby's free hand grabbed onto his backpack. Mine was shoved in my pocket. Ben and Sophie walked shortly ahead of us, Eiliene still yapping their ears off. She was quite a loud lady. Quite opinionated. Toby got no personality traits from her, thank goodness.
The airport was bustling with all sorts of life
