ANNABETH'S POV:

I froze. I just sat there while my boyfriend was getting killed. I was trying to figure a way to save him, but I couldn't, I just couldn't. some daughter of Athena I was. His plea to Posiden, asking his father to protect the camp, made my throat close up and my legs turn into jello. Dam his loyalty. He could have asked for help or strength, but he used his last favor for his friends.

Then my attention landed on his hands, they were twitching unnaturally. At first, I thought it was caused by a lack of oxygen. Then I realized. he was telling me to leave. That only made my stubbornness take over. I was gathering the courage to step out from behind the forest cover and fight when Percy stopped fighting against Polybotes grip. A deep rumbling came, as if from the center of the world.

I almost fell over from the force of the power, the sound of rushing water seemed to erupt everywhere around me. I grabbed onto the tree next to me, the part of my brain that was sensitive to danger wanted to freeze again; to crawl into a small ball and disappear. but the other part, the part trained to fight, won out. I forced myself to step out of the cover the trees gave me and made my way toward Percy as fast as I could without falling on my face. I could hear yells coming from the camp, it sounded like shouts of triumph that I really hoped was coming from the campers and not the monsters. I made it about ten feet when I suddenly ran into a wall.

It was like a wall of air. I tried a couple more times to get through it, to push myself through the air that was so tightly packed that I couldn't hear anything on the other side. it took several moments to realize it must have been Posiden following through with Percy's request. Curse Posiden. I started pounding my fists against the wall, reminding me of when Mathew and Bobby would have tantrums when they were little. Behind me, I hardly realize the rumbling had stopped, and I probably wouldn't have if at the same moment Percy's whole body goes limp, his head rolling.

"NOOO!" my screams seemed to choke me, gripping my throat. I had to help him, I had to save him. I started throwing my entire body into the wall. My yells only seemed to grow. I could feel the tears running down my face. I hear people calling me and Pecys' names, unimportant. I can't lose my seaweed brain. I can't lose my Percy.

Polybotes, making sure Percy was really out of it, before throwing him into the air higher than the tops of most of the trees. catching him into a tight fist. I saw his booming laugh before he turned, walking away from the camp. he was one of the very few left able to do so. the small army surrounded him and headed back to where ever they were to rendezvous with my possibly dead boyfriend imprisoned in the giant's palm.

As soon as they were out of my sight I sank to my knees, still leaning heavily on the invisible wall. I was a blubbering mess, I sat back pulling my knees to my chest, hugging them trying to remember what it felt like when Percy had hugged me not that long ago. Barely an hour ago I had woke up with him, I could almost feel his kiss on my forehead, now he was gone. How could the great savior of the two great wars really be gone? He couldn't possibly be dead, could he?

PIPER'S POV:

No one had seen Percy or Annabeth since the fight began. Percy had to be alive, at least he had been. Everyone agreed that the blast had to have come from him. Everyone has been searching everywhere for them. Me, Will, Katie, and Grover had set out to check the woods. we had been calling their names for almost half an hour when we heard crying. we ran as fast as we could toward the sounds.

we broke through the clearing to find Annabeth hunched on the ground. tears were washing down her face, her expression was one solely of devastation.

"Annabeth!" Grover yelled running to her, "what's wrong!"

She just kept crying. will walk up to her. he kneeled and put his hand on her shoulder." Annabeth, can you tell me what happened." He asked her calmly, using the voice doctors use to comfort patients. it seemed to work a little. She looked up at him, her lips trembling.

"He... I tried but..." she bit her lip, trying to calm her tears enough to speak." I- I just stood there! He need- he needed me and... I'm so stupid, so stupid!"

She buried her face into her knees, overthrown again by heart-wrenching tears. I crouched down in front of her, resting my hand on her other shoulder. It broke my heart to see my best friend so distraught.

" Hey, you are not stupid." Grover tried his best to console her, " Who needed you Annabeth? Percy? Where is he?"

she stopped sobbing long enough to look back at him, her voice breaking " He's gone"

"what do you mean? How can he just be gone? What happened?" I knew I was asking too many questions. I was probably giving her stress she didn't need, but I couldn't wrap my mind around it. Percy, THE PERCY JACKSON, was gone? it didn't make any sense. —————————————— ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
