*Obanai's pov*
As the conversation continued on I explained to Mitsuri about the properties of my hair, how when people cut it the cut hair stops growing, and how I had gotten the scar.
"Now that you have explained about your hair, is it okay if you tell me about your scar? It looks serious." During the conversation she became much quieter, listening to what I had to say.
"When I was younger I had once tried to sneak out and see the lights on my own. I had apparently chosen the wrong time as Mother was coming back. When she saw me she took me back into the tower completely infuriated with my actions. The old hag had grabbed a knife from the kitchen and cut my mouth, saying if she catches me trying to escape again she would add more scars. After that I never tried again." My tone was hushed, trying to stay as quiet as possible. Her eyes showed sympathy as I told the story.
"At this point you can't even go back home, I won't allow it. With the way she treats you and how she had you locked up in that tower for all of your life I can't just sit here and then watch you go through that!"
Standing up she started stomping away, clearly angry about what I had told her. "I'M GOING TO GET MORE FIREWOOD! STAY HERE." Yelling over her shoulder she continued her anger into the forest.
"OH I thought he would never leave!" Mother. She found me.
"Shit- how did you find me?" She began walking towards me, a fake smile plastered on her face. While embracing me in a very unwanted hug she then began to speak.
"It was easy, all I had to do was follow the trail of disrespect and betrayal. Clearly you didn't heed my warning from when you were younger."
Backing up from the hug I stare in disbelief. "Come now Obanai, we don't have much time, it's already dark." Pulling my hand away from her I back up, still in shock from the comment made before.
"WHY THE HELL WOULD I GO WITH YOU! After All that you've done locking me in that damn tower and you expect me to go with you like you've done nothing! I've finally found something that I truly want, a friend. Maybe even something more and this is what you wanna do?"Anger fueled me as 'mother' started to draw closer, holding something behind her.
"How foolish could you be, making up these delusions of romance in your head. She doesn't want anything other than this!" Pulling the item from behind her back I see that it was the satchel from before. How did she find the satchel? I thought I had hidden it.
Extending her hand with the satchel she begins her rant. "Give her this and watch how fast she'll leave you. I wont say I told you so!" Watching her carefully I grab the satchel from her hands, accidentally leaving a small cut on her hand. Good, you deserve it.
"Hey Obanai, You good? You look kinda pale. Plus I heard screaming." Mother had disappeared to the darkness when I looked away, only leaving Mitsuri in my sight.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little tired." I had quickly hidden the satchel in a nearby tree stump before Mitsuri arrived. After adding some firewood to the fire we head to bed, me sleeping a little ways from Mitsuri while she was using a rock for a pillow.
Looking over to the stump that held the satchel I thought about mothers words. If I really were to give Mitsuri the crown how would she react? After all of this time she wouldn't abandon me. Kaburamaru was snuggled in my hair as I stared into the dark forest that surrounded us as I heard the sounds of animals and swaying trees lulling me to sleep. The more I listened the deeper I fell into sleep until the world finally peacefully turned dark.
