*Obanai's pov*
After a few minutes of waiting for mitsuri I saw a shadow form in the fog. "Ah, Mitsuri. I was beginning to think you left me." After saying this the shadow split into two. The figures were revealed to be the two men from the dam that didn't like Mitsuri.
"She did. See for yourself." Their expressions were dark as I turned to look where they pointed. Looking towards the lake I saw the outline of a boat.
"Mitsuri-" A pit formed in my stomach when I recognized the figure steering the boat. The large men then started to circle me.
"Fair trade I'd say. A shiny crown for the boy with the magic hair."
"How much do you think one would pay to stay young and healthy forever." The taller male grabbed a hidden sack that he had from behind.
"Back off." Turning to run I bolt passed them to where Mitsuri went and they came. Jumping over a fallen tree trunk my hair gets stuck causing me to almost fall back. "SHIT!" Pulling on the caught hair I hear my name being called from around the bend.
"OBANAI!" Mothers voice echoed from where the men were, worry laced her voice. Walking to where I heard Mother I saw her wielding a stick with the men unconscious on the floor.
"Oh my precious little snake!" She rushed towards me, enveloping me in a suffocating hug. "Oh! I was so worried about you so I followed you and I saw these hideous beasts attack you! We must get you home!" Pulling away from the clingy woman I stare off to the boat that Mitsuri escaped on, confusion filling my mind.
"Obanai please. We must get going. They could come too at any moment." Pulling on my arm we head home, the pit in my stomach never leaving.
                      ~A little while later~
I was sitting on my bed as Mother was pulling the flowers from my hair. "There! It's like it never happened!" As she picked up the basket that held the flowers I glared at her. Once reaching the door she turned around with a sorrowful expression on her face. "I really tried to warn you about what was out there. The world will take any drop of kindness and stomp it out."
When she left my room I uncrumpled the flag that I had hidden in my hands. Falling back on my bed Kaburamaru followed as I stared at the ceiling. Holding the small piece of fabric up to the ceiling I compare the paintings that had accumulated over the years. Sitting up I noticed the sun shapes in the paintings, soon bright yellow suns covered my vision.
Standing up from my seat on the bed Memories fogged my mind. Blurry images appeared when I was a baby in a cradle as a mobile with the same golden sun took its shape in front of me. More recent memories began showing as I could see the large mural and me putting on the stolen crown.
Stumbling backwards I knock into my desk, causing things to fall and my mirror to almost shatter. "Obanai?" A worried voice called from downstairs as Mother walked towards my room.
Bursting from behind the curtains that cover my room I stare with disbelief. "I am the lost prince-"
"Please, Obanai! You know how I hate mumbling!"
"I AM THE LOST PRINCE! Did I mumble, mother? Or should I even call you that." Anger bubbled in my throat as a shocked expression covered 'mothers' face.
"Obanai, do you even hear yourself? Why would you ask such a stupid question?" Walking up the stairs she tried tricking me into a false reality.
"This is all your fault! This was all you!" Pushing her back when she tried to get near I continued to yell at her. "You're the one who made Mitsuri leave, you're the one who used me just for my hair!"
"Everything I did was for your own good!" I scowled as I pushed her into the wall while passing. Fleeing down the stairs
"I have spent my entire MISERABLE LIFE hiding in this bullshit tower hiding from people who would use me when in reality you were the one who I should have been hiding from!"
"You act like you have a place to go! That girl is to be hanged for her crimes." A sharp pain enveloped my heart when she said this. Circling me like a hawk Mother tried to touch my hair. Grabbing her hand in a harsh grip I hold it in place.
"You were wrong about the world and you were wrong about me! Touch my hair again and I will cut your hands off."
She pulled her hand away and knocked into a nearby mirror causing it to break and shatter. Walking away from the woman I used to call Mother I hear her begin to talk in a sinister tone of voice.
"Fine then. If you want me to be the bad guy I can."
