Of all people, why did it have to be them? They had a child, so why? What made them so different from everyone else? Why were they chosen to leave? What was this big, top secret mission they couldn't tell their child? What was so much more important than family?

She was confused, sad and scared. They didn't even say goodbye, they just left. She knew she shouldn't have fought with them the night before. She knew she shouldn't be mad at them. So why was she mad at them? Or was she mad at herself? For not being good enough, for not being talented enough, for not trying hard enough. She believed she could have done so much more, if only she wanted to.

"Mom? Dad?" she called out quietly.

"Mom, what's for breakfast?" she went downstairs to check why her house was so quiet. Her mom would usually be making a lot of noise cooking and cleaning while her dad would sit there, legs on the table, reading newspapers.

But they weren't. They weren't in the kitchen, nor in the living room, nor their bedroom. They were nowhere to be found.

Maybe they went to the store, she thought. It wasn't strange for them to leave super early when they went shopping so she just went outside to play like normal. Even though she was only 5 years old, she was capable of understanding them.

She had an older brother who left to fight in the war when she was even younger. She didn't remember his face, his voice, how he acted, nothing.

One thing she did remember is a low tune he used to hum to her before she fell asleep, so every time she was scared or sad she would hum it to herself.

As tears ran down her face she was humming the low tune. Their pictures were on the nightstand of her new room. She recalled that morning:

A few Jonin came to her house to take her to her new home.

"Your parents left to fight in the war." one of them said after she refused to leave unless she knew where her parents were.

It broke her heart. She felt alone and betrayed. Her parents, the ones that were supposed to always be there for her, who promised to never leave her side, left her without a goodbye.

It's been 2 years since then and she was old enough to enroll to the ninja academy her dad wanted her to go to.  She promised herself that when she graduates the academy, she'll go to the front and bring her parents back home.

Her alarm finally rang. She was awake the whole night again. Ever since they left she had a hard time falling asleep, but that didn't stop her from getting up every morning. No matter how sad or tired she was, she wasn't going to give up on her mission.

She put on her black shirt to match with her dark blue training sandals, green pants and a matching green jacket. She took the books she prepared a week earlier and headed to the academy.

"Smile, be nice, be chatty, but not too chatty..." she was repeating to herself on the way there.

So deep in her thoughts, she bumped into someone about her height. As she stumbled back, the boy turned around. He seemed mad.

"Watch your step..." he started speaking, but froze.

The boy had silvery-white hair and a mask covering more than half of his face. His dark eyes were threatening her at first, but now they were just wide open, as if he'd seen a ghost.

She shook her head and smiled, remembering what she was going over just now.

"I'm sorry. I'll watch my step from now on, thanks." she said with a soft smile spread across her face. The boy just turned around. It seemed like they were going the same way so she ran to catch up to him.

She walked next to him in silence, happy that he didn't tell her to leave just yet.

"What?" he asked, a bit annoyed with her.

"Nothing." she replied with a big smile on her face.

"Are you also new to the academy?" she asked since they were both going in that direction.

"Yes, what's that to you?"

"Well, I'm going there too, starting today... So... Wanna be friends?"

"Fine."

She felt relieved she wouldn't have to walk into the classroom all alone. Her emerald green eyes studied his features, she was puzzled with his mask.

Maybe he is a germophobe, or he's sick, or both, or he's extremely ugly...

"Stop staring at me." he said, finally looking her in the eyes.

"Sorry, sorry. I'll stop, I promise." a chuckle escaped her lips. It made the boy chuckle as well.

"I'm y/n." she put her hand out for the boy to shake it. He didn't, he just looked at it and replied.

"Kakashi, Kakashi Hatake." and continued walking. She stood, frozen in place.

"THE Kakashi Hatake?! Really?!" he just nodded.

"So your dad is The White Fang of the Leaf??? That's so cool, I wish my dad was so cool and popular." she said running to him.

The boy just nodded and they continued their walk in silence.

The classroom was big and spacious, probably bigger than her entire apartment. She ran up and took the seat in the second row from the top, next to a window. From there she could see and hear everything. The classroom was filling with people, next to her sat a kid with dark hair and protection glasses.

Next to him sat a girl with short brown hair and purple stripes on her cheeks. The boy seemed pretty flustered, but the girl didn't mind it. Y/n payed little to no attention to the people in her class, the training grounds were more interesting.

She was watching older kids train with their shurikens and kunais, they were really impressive. Class started and her attention shifted to the teacher. As lessons passed y/n was getting more and more annoyed with the boy sitting next to her.

He wasn't paying attention and was constantly fidgeting, it was draining her energy.

The bell finally rang and kids started to unpack their lunches and head out. She didn't pack anything so she just stayed there. She was used to not having lunch.

"Hey! Girl with a green jacket!" shouted a boy from the door frame, it was the boy sitting next to her.

She just glanced at him and he waved for her to join him. Since there was nothing better to do, she got up and followed the boy.

"I'm Obito, Obito Uchiha, the next Hokage." said the boy with a huge grin on his face.

"Y/n, it's nice to meet you." she replied with a soft smile.

On their walk to the park the boy couldn't shut up, it was cute in a way, but it also annoyed her. On the bench in the park, were Kakashi and that girl from class.

"Heyyyy, I'm Rin Nohara. It's nice to meet you." the girl said as y/n and Obito aproached.

"Hello Rin, I'm y/n. So you 3 are like a friend group?" she asked.

Kakashi said nothing and continued to eat his lunch while Obito started laughing. Rin also let out a chuckle so y/n took it as a yes.

"You don't plan to eat?" Kakashi asked her.

"Well I didn't pack anything so I suppose not." letting out a chuckle, she could hear her stomach grumble.

"Here, take the rest of mine." Kakashi and Rin said in sync.

Sharing lunch with people was a new experience for y/n, but she didn't mind it.

She did it, she made friends the first day. The goal was met and she went on with the rest of the day with an actual smile, not a fake one this time.
