"No!" The word left Sophia's mouth a bit louder than she meant it to as she caught the sight in the department store window. Or lack there of. The gorgeous blue evening gown that hung elegantly on the mannequin now replaced by a champagne pink cocktail dress. Equally gorgeous, yes, but not the statement piece of the blue one.
Cate winced next to her. "It's not the end of the world. This shop has plenty of other dresses. Let's go!" She grabbed hold of her friend's arm and dragged her into the shop. Easton followed.
"But that blue dress was perfect." Sophia said sadly as Cate dragged her to a rack of dresses on the side of the shop.
Cate held up a dress. This one simple and minimalistic. Classically black. "This one is just as perfect."
Sophia considered. "I guess. And it is better then nothing."
"Try it on." Cate shoved the dress at Sophia and nudged her in the direction of the fitting rooms.
Sophia laughed briefly. "Okay."
It was only a minute after Sophia stepped into the fitting room when she heard the commotion from outside.
"Stop! Thief!" A woman's shrieked.
Then a crash.
"Stop him! He has my purse!"
Then the tell tale jingle of the bell over the door.
Sophia set the dress down on the bench and left the fitting room. Looking around the shop, her eyes widened.
There was no sign of the alleged thief.
The alleged histerical woman who had her purse stolen.
Cate nowhere to be seen.
But it was the absence of Easton that set Sophia's heart racing. She immediately ran from the shop and looked around.
She heard the commotion. Actually it was the histerical woman who screamed, "Oh my God!"
Sophia spotted them. Cate standing next to the woman as they both stood by and watch Easton apprehend the suspect. As soon got closer to the scene, she saw Easton had the man pinned to the ground, the man struggling on the ground, trying to gain an upper hand on the dog. When he lifted a fist and punched Easton in the head, that's when Sophia's blood started to boil.
She turned to Cate.
Cate nodded. "I got this." She spoke calmly as she began to dig through her purse at her side. "Now would be a good time to see if my new taser works."
S
ophia narrowed her eyes. "You have a taser?"
"Yep."
"Do you know how to use it?"
Cate smirked cheekily. "We're about to find out?" She pulled a yellow, gun-looking object out from her purse and took aim at the man. "One. Two..." Instead of saying 'Three" she pulled the trigger and two strings shot from the object and injected into the man. He stopped fighting with Easton and began flopping around on the concrete like a fish out of water as a buzzing sound filled the air.
"Grab the handcuffs out of my purse." Cate spoke at Sophia.
Sophia did as she was told and now held the silver handcuffs. "Holy shit! These are real!"
"Yep."
"Why do you keep handcuffs in your purse?"
"Why do you think." Cate winked. It wasn't a question.
"Regardless, what do I do?"
Cate continued to hold the taser steady. "Cuff him!"
Sophia ran to the suspect and clicked the handcuffs on the man's wrists. She noticed the yellow purse laying next to him and picked it up, bringing it to the woman. She smiled as she slipped her purse back on her shoulder. "Thank you so much."
"Anytime." Sophia nodded.
"And I already called the cops. They should be here any second." The woman smiled and as if on que the sound of police sirens filled the air, a couple of patrol vehicles coming up the street.
Cate came up behind Sophia and whispered. "You think it will be Jack?"
The cop cars pulled to a stop. Both got out, and slightly dismayed, none were Jack. Yet Easton must have recognized them because he ran over to greet them. After exchanging head pats with Easton, they walked over to the scene.
"What happened here?" The one wearing a pair of black avaitors spoke, leading the conversation.
They recounted everything that has happened a few moments ago. The woman filed a police report before walking off.
One of the police officers slipped his handcuffs onto the suspect and motioned over Cate to take hers off of him. She kneeled down and smiled at the cop. "Sorry. She apologized. "Just was trying to help."
The cop smiled sweetly at her. "Don't worry about it. You did good today."
Cate stood up and stepped away as she slipped her handcuffs back into her purse.
They watch as the cop put the man in the back of the patrol car and drive off.
Once both cops were gone, Sophia and Cate faced each other. "Well..." Sophia breathed out. A sigh of relief. "That was thrilling."
"Yeah." Cate looked down at Easton. "Easton did most of the work."
Cate laughed causing Sophia to laugh too. Uncontrollable laughter.
When they settled, Cate spoke. "I'm hungry. You want to grab something to eat."
"Sure."
Sophia and Cate linked arms and walked off down the streets, laughter starting up again, as Easton followed at their heels.
