or reasons unbeknownst to him, Jack found himself back at the gas station. The same one where he found the unconscious girl just two nights prior.

A little over a half hour ago Jack hung up the video call. What Star was saying about the possibility of being married hit him hard. If she was then that would mean there is a possibility that someone will come forward and at least file a missing persons report in a few days. So far, no one matching Star's description came in. No one is looking for her. Yet.

So Jack found himself at the gas station, flashlight in hand, scanning over the place he found Star and surrounding areas looking for a ring. So far, nothing came up.

"Lose something there, boss."

The loud booming inquiry made Jack look up. Of course, it was from another officer. Enrique Raymond.

"Find anything interesting?"

Jack glanced up at the man. "Not quite," he answered before turning off his flashlight and walking back to his patrol car. He parked next to one of the gas pumps on one side and on the opposite side Officer Raymond was parked.

"I swear to God, I've been blowing through gas recently." Enrique offered as he maneuvered his way around the gas pump. Then his eyebrows shot up and he called out towards Jack, "I checked the missing persons database like you asked. There's still no matches coming back matching with your...amnesia girl."

Jack chuckled. "Amnesia girl?"

"Why not? What would you call her?"

Jack offered. "We actually settled on Star."

"Star?" Enrique questioned. "How'd you land on that?"

"It was her idea," Jack stated as he remembered the way Star's eyes moved all over the expanse of his body right before she said it, "right after she kind of undressed me with her eyes."

Enrique smirked. "No kidding. Little rookie Jack turning to be quite the lady killer."

"Please don't ever say that."

"Fine. But you are going to eventually sleep with her, right?" Enrique prodded.

"And why would I do that?"

"Oh come on," Enrique let out incredulously. "If I had a girl leaving with me who couldn't remember a thing, I'll find a way to give her something she'll never forget."

Jack shrugged uncomfortably. "Which is why I'm glad you're not the one who found her."

"Just saying." Enrique said as he finished pumping his gas. He looked around. His eyes landed on the gas station and than back to Jack before offering, "get coffee with me."

"Sure." Jack stated as he finished pumping his gas.

There weren't many things open late at night in there town. The only thing being a gas station/convenience store that was open twenty-four hours.

Jack and Enrique entered into the dim florescent lights and immediately went over to the coffee makers.

"Is the coffee fresh?" Enrique called over to the cashier.

A young girl, at least eighteen, looked up, disinterested, and answered with a curt, "no."

Enrique turned back to the coffee. "Fantastic."

After making his coffee, Jack picked up his cup and suddenly spotted a small aisle of beauty supplies. An image of Stat batting her fingers through her hair marched through Jack's mind. He wanted to do something nice and get her a hairbrush and some products, just so she wouldn't have to use her fingers to comb her hair every day for the time being.

Jack walked over to the aisle. While perusing, Enrique came up beside him.

"Lady troubles?"

Jack rolled his eyes. "Not exactly."

"You are trying to fuck her. But first you want her to be prettier."

Jack stated. "Or just to be nice."

The convenience store didn't have much of a selection but Jack picked up what he thought were a girl's essential hair care needs; a hairbrush, some hair ties, and a hair mist that claimed to be strawberry scented.

"Let's go." Jack said as they proceeded to check out.

"Ooh." Enrique practically drooled over the beef jerky on display. He got a pack and so did Jack.

When Jack finally made it back home it was a little past six in the morning. He tried to open and close the front door as silently as he could as to not woke the girl sleeping on his couch.

He gripped the bag in one hand and tiptoed over to the couch. The plastic bag rustled a little as he set it down, causing Star to stir but not wake up.

When he was at the stairs he heard her.

"Your home?"

Jack turned and walked back over to the couch. "I am."

"How was work?"

"Same old." Jack shrugged.

Star's eyes glanced over at the bag sitting on the coffee table. "What is this?" She said as she sat up and reached for the bag.

Jack slid his hands in his pockets and stood nearby. "Just a few essentials I thought you could use." He explained. "It's not much but now you don't have to comb your hair with your fingers while you're here."

"That was nice of you," Star replied as she reached in the bag and pulled out the hair mist. She cocked an eyebrow at the little pink bottle.

"It's supposed to be strawberry scented."

"Sounds delicious." Star said before pulling out the beef jerky. "Seriously?"

Jack chuckled. "I thought you could use it. It's my favorite snack and I thought you might want it too."

"I appreciate it. You shouldn't have."

"It was no problem." Jack turned back to the stairs. "If you don't mind, I have to get some sleep now."

"Okay." Sophia said before adding, "goodnight."

Jack glanced over his shoulder and over at a window where he saw the first lightening of the sky about to turn into daylight. He smiled. "good morning."
