Sophia
Sophia aimlessly pawed her hands over her hair in an attempt to smooth it out.
"You okay?" Jack spoke.
She turned her head towards him. He was driving, of course. His right arm stretched out with his hand on the wheel with the other hanging out of the open window, some of his black hair blowing through the breeze and falling over his forehead.
"Is this some secret retrial girls like to do in the mornings?" He added with a smirk.
"I'm just trying to comb my hair. It's difficult when you don't have a, you know, comb."
"I've could've lent you one," Jack offered, "and also gave you something clean to wear."
Sophia looking down at herself, still seeing the same clothes she wore when she came to in the hospital. The oversized babydoll pink sweater. The white shorts. The boots that traveled up her legs and stopped mid-thigh. She didn't mind wearing them again. Even if they did smell like old rain water, at least they were finally dry.
"I didn't want to put you out anymore than I already have," Sophia explained.
Jack shrugged. "There just clothes."
"Your clothes. Men's clothes. And just a little bit big on me."
"Just saying," Jack glanced over at Sophia as his truck pulled to a red light. "You smell worst Easton sometimes."
At the moment of his name, Easton perked up in the backseat, sitting up. Sophia turned around and ruffled him on the top of his head.
"Why are we bringing Easton along?" Sophia asked curiously, than added, "not that I'm complaining."
Jack smiled. "You think I'm actually going to leave Easton home alone by himself."
Sophia shrugged. "I mean, why not? It's not like you haven't left him home alone before."
Jack shifted uncomfortably in his seat and it registered.
"You've never left Easton home alone before? Why?"
Jack looked over, seeming almost offended. "What do you mean why?" His an official police K-9. He comes to work with me."
"But what about the times when you're not a work."
"He's still with me."
"All the time. What if you want to go out and take time for yourself? Maybe meet someone?"
Jack paused. "I'm a cop. I work twelve hours days. I don't have time for dating."
Sophia knew she shouldn't press. But she felt like she wanted to know. She narrowed her eyes. "Are you a virgin?"
Jack shot her an incredulous look before breaking out laughing. The truck slowed to a stop as they approach Sugar n' Spice and pulled into a parking spot.
"It's fine if you are. What you're like 22? 23?"
"25." Jack stated firmly before added, "and I'm not a virgin."
