SOPHIA

Cold.

That's what Sophia was feeling over the last few hours.

First, it started when Sophia was outside. When she was running away. Not only was the air slightly chilly, undoubtedly from the first whispers of winter coming through the air, but...

Then, it was the heavy rain falling over her skin as she was on the ground. Fresh after being hit over the head with something not blunt enough to cause permanent damage but not light enough to be considered harmless.

Finally, it's cold in the emergency room.

Still stuck in wet these clothes that cling to my skin, Sophia blinked open her eyes.

However cold, Sophia remembered there was a slight warmth coming through. It happened sometime between when she was laying beaten on the ground to being brought to the hospital.

She remembers being close to the heat source. Really close. It was rather comforting. It felt safe.

Broad shoulders stood over her and when she heard him speak something. It was muffled but she heard him. Loud and somewhat clear. Suddenly, hearing his voice, it made warmth spread into uncharted territory. When he maneuvered his way towards her and picked her up, that's when she knew it was safe. Everything was okay. Everything will be okay.

Did she know this man?

Fear coursed through her but it quickly relented as she felt the man's broad shoulders. His firm chest. Shifting around in his embrace, she could've fought against him but felt like there was no need.

Sophia remembers coming to briefly. Squinting, she caught the glimpse of a chiseled jaw and furrowed brow. His head turned and his steely gaze locked with hers.

Who was he? How did he know where Sophia were? Where to find her?

Before Sophia could think about it farther her thoughts were interrupted. A woman walked in with her hands shoved in the pockets of her white lab coat.

"Hey. How are you feeling?" She spoke. Her voice clear and reassuring.

No other words could describe her as beautiful. She was stunning. Bright blue eyes, an oval face, tan skin, and platinum blonde hair pulled back into a tight ponytail. Not to mention her body with curves in all the right places and still visible through her lab coat.

Sophia looked up at her. "I'm good. All things considering."

"I assume you don't remember much..."

"Well..." Sophia thought about it for a moment. Whether if she should tell her what she remembers, however slightly, and then realize that she doesn't remember anything at all. It's more of a feeling. "I don't know what to say."

"Totally normal." She reassured me. "Although one of your friends is here to see you already."

"One of my friends?" Sophia asked, confused. "Really?"

Nothing could of prepared me for the person who walked around the blue curtain. It was a man and to say he was handsome would be an understatement. Broad shoulders. Black hair cut a little more shaggy than conservative. Soft blue eyes.

But what was unexpected was the one trailing behind him. A dog with black hair all over except for tan ears that seemed to always stand to attention.

This hospital allows pets?

That's when Sophia noticed the black vest written wrapped around the dog's torso with white lettering reading 'Sheriff K9'.

Bringing her gaze back up to the man, she narrowed her eyes in confusion, finally noticing the black uniform the man was wearing. "I'm friends with a cop?"
