Chapter 5
Nick
Stupid, stupid, stupid Nick.
Of course, he'll see right through you... the guy is not an idiot. He's delusional. But not an idiot.
I'm in big trouble... I thought.
You think? My mind sassed back.
I know.
"I need to convince Si..."
"Convince me about what?" Sugar. Classic Nick. I didn't even realize where I ended up going. Right to where I needed to be.
"Uh..." That was my intelligent response. "So uh... I was thinking... we prank the... teachers!" I tried he shook his head an amused glimmer played in his eyes.
"Nice try. What are you up to now?" He smirks walking onto his bed.
I wrung my hands together. See, I don't know how would he react.
Would he help?
Would he get mad that I'm leaving?
Would he say that it's not gonna happen?
"You're nervous." He noted eying me.
"What... nooo..."
"Your hands are this close to having fire and you're running a hand through your hair a lot." He folded his arms smiling smugly as I put my hand down and extinguished the rising flames.
"Fine... I'll just tell you flat out... Allen threatened me. Said I'd regret talking to her if I did."
His eyes widened and he looked me dead in the eyes and asked "And what are you gonna do about it?"
I blew out a breath, made sure the door was closed and locked before I crept over to him and whispered "I am going to go to H.E.R.O prep... as a student."
He froze. His entire body tensed as I moved back.
"How? You need to escape. You need to tell them, you can't just show up at the hero's doorstep man." Need to tell them.
He's right.
"Who do I tell?"
"Naomi, Juniper, Kal, Valerie, Samantha, Thomas, Adam." He listed off my friends' names.
"You know I can't tell Naomi."
"She doesn't know you. And... why not? She'll obviously not know who it is."
"How do I-"
"Dream visit. We all know how to from the missions. You could dream visit her. Go in secret. Wear the same clothes as before so she knows it's you. Or actually don't. Wear all black and a hood. But don't just go there and tell her that we're going to show up there. Get closer to her. Become her friend." Become her friend.
I shouldn't. I couldn't. But I need to leave this hell hole.
"Ok... and how do I get there?"
"Walking... It's safest. Or walk to the Nena Mountains then use your hang glider from there." His eyes were deep in thought as he schemed.
