Chapter 12
Naomi
My hair stood on end, a shiver raced down my spine and a lump came to my throat. It was him...
"Hello my dear," His smile was warm, to a stranger he was a handsome man offering a breathtaking smile. But only those who knew him well would be able to read the malice burning in his eyes. The taunt stitched into the syllables, venom dripping off letters threaded together.
"How have you been my precious?" His eyes glowed. He was unreal. He was staring at me. He was... he was... satan.
"I am not your anything and if you come near me you're gonna be dead," I promised thankful the fear wasn't apparent in my voice. My heartbeat rivalled the howls of the wind circling around us. Watching. Waiting.
"There's the fire I injected in yo-"
"You did nothing!" My words left me in an emotional whisper, the words more for me than him.
He smiled. He s m i l e d.
The audacity of this man.
He left my mother. He hurt my little sisters giving them a reminder of his presence on their faces. He traumatized my middle sister. He wreaked havoc on the lives of many including me. He made me a monster. He gave me a so-called power I didn't ask for.
He's a lying bastard. He placed in me the power which he can't have... he manipulates and deceives, he hurts and he schemes.
"I believe I did a lot though, haven't I? I made you who you are. Remember?"
"NO!" I inhale a sharp breath, my inner beast perking its head at the creaking of the walls around my mind. It can escape. I focused on the masterpiece around me. The wind picks up, the grass in the meadow tickling my ankles. Sweet-smelling roses and fresh grass trickled into my nostrils the quiet hoot of an owl punctuating the minutes and hanging in the atmosphere waiting to be plucked by any passerby and thrown into the endless sea of stars, the moon hanging by a thread at the centre of the piece, constellations circling it. It was a beautiful night.
"You did nothing of significance, you know something, Allen? You're a coward, hiding behind you're academy and letting children do your dirty work. You even manipulated your own kids and burdened them with your schemes because you're scared of your own shadow." His smug smirk fell away, an inferno blazed in his eyes rivalling the cool calmness that was there a minute ago.
"You ungrateful brat. I give you a gift, one many dream of and this is how you respond." He clicks his tongue.
The sky rips open.
Lightning tore a path across the stars and inky blackness, blue electricity on a one-track path to...me. The bolt made Allen's eye glow and his face was illuminated by the single line of pure power.
I stood in my place as the lightning bolt hurtled toward me and-
"Nai! Wake up!" I tear my eyes open my chest heaving and my palms sweaty. As my breathing slows and I blink, my eyes adjusting to the surroundings I exhale through my teeth.
The memory lingered in my mind the bitter taste of a scream lodged in my throat, I hadn't had that dream in a long time. As the whispers of the memory now turned nightmare crawled back into the dark corners of my mind I finally found the strength to look at the worried faces of my friends.
