Chapter 13

Naomi

"There has been intel that a group of villains is going to attack Aurelia's son, Caleb tonight. I need you to intercept this attack." My mom informed us bright and early on a Monday morning much to Sam's dismay.

"Aurelia is who again?" Kal asked hiding a yawn behind his hand.

"She's a member of the council. She never attended a Meta-human school, she's an empath who married a meta-human who can control water. She has two sons." Val stated matter-of-factly.

"Why do you know so much about her?" Kal's brows lifted and I rolled my eyes.

"If you paid even as much attention in class as you do to blitz ball matches then you would too."

"Class is boring, blitz ball isn't."

"Guys, stop getting sidetracked. This is a picture of her son, he lives with her in the heart of the city, their residence is on lane 36 along with the rest of the meta-council. It's a risky operation for the villains. I'm surprised their being bold enough to do this to someone of the meta-council."

"Forget the fact that it's the meta-council why someone who never attended either academy? Why their child and not their spouse or the council member themselves? And why this son in specific." Sam spoke up for the first time since we came here.

"I'm still trying to figure that one out, keep your ears open when you're there and see if you guys can get something. Be there by midnight, wear you're hero attire, and you'll be transported via one of our shuttle buses to the bus stop nearest to their place. Adam will be with you guys via earpiece and lead you to her place while keeping an eye on the activity around the area. Any questions?"

Kal raised his hand and my mom chuckled "Yes?"

"Why didn't you get June on this mission." My mother lifted a brow at the question but then Val turned her gaze on our mom too, she turned back to sit on her white desk chair while an explanation tumbled from her lips.

"I need Sam's enhanced senses to aid you guys in not getting caught by the councillor but also avoid the villains, this is Val's second-year practice trip before starting missions with her own team next year, I made Kal join because I wanna bother him by waking up early." Kal narrowed his eyes at her while pointing an accusatory finger.

"I knew it! No one would be so cruel to wake us up so early for a briefing on a Monday morning!" He threw his arms up and we all laughed at his display.

"I'm just kidding, being a telepath comes in handy, especially in situations like these where it's best no one notices you. Besides I need someone to have the three girls' backs in case something goes wrong." My mom winked at him as she started sorting through papers on her desk.

"I think you mean we're going to watch his back," Sam muttered.

"Hey!" Everyone dissolved into fits of laughter as Kal continued protesting.

I wish things could stay like this forever.

Freezing... the weather is f r i g i d. The 4 of us sat huddled together in the shuttle as it transported us to the bus stop, even though I had layers beneath the H.E.R.O mission clothing, shivers still racked my body.
