"Happy birthday Dubu!" Dahyun smiled wide when her members came in with a cake. "You're here." Nayeon nodded as she set down the cake. "Of course, Dub. It's your special day." Her smile made Dahyun's heart flutter. She smiled back and quickly took her attention off of Nayeon. As the birthday Vlive went on she couldn't keep herself from glancing at Nayeon the entire time. She just looked so good. Sana leaned down to hug her from behind and whispered in her ear. "See something you like? Maybe someone?" Dahyun acted like she didn't know what she was talking about. Sana knew anyway.
Thoughts of Nayeon distracted Dahyun the whole time, her appearance making her head spin. Her wandering mind didn't go unnoticed. The girls took this as Dahyun being tired and wanting to end the Vlive, so they had Jihyo ask if they could end it. Their manager said yes so they said goodbye with Dahyun's permission. Nayeon tried to walk with Dahyun to the van but Dahyun went immediately to Sana. She was confused but shrugged it off and continued to the van. When they got to the dorm they made Dahyun wait in the living room so they could give her presents.
She got a bag from Chaeyoung that she made herself, a new video game from Mina, Sana and Momo bought a few things when they were in Japan that Dahyun was looking at, Jihyo got her a new keyboard, Tzuyu bought her some cute plushies, Jeongyeon got her a new jacket, and Nayeon didn't have anything for her. "Your gift hasn't come yet, I'm sorry. It was supposed to be here like a week ago but something went wrong with shipping." It wasn't because of shipping, but Nayeon couldn't tell her the custom ring and necklace she was getting made took longer than expected. Dahyun smiled and told her not to worry about it. The rest of the night was spent celebrating with drinks and snacks, Dahyun grateful for the excuse not to talk to Nayeon. She just couldn't deal with the way the older woman was making her feel.
Her feelings were confusing and stressful, not ideal for a birthday celebration. But no matter how much she ignored her, Nayeon was always in the back of her mind. The way she looked in her clothes and how kind she was, was all flooding Dahyun's head, making her lose focus and zone out. Nayeon noticed. She walked up behind her when she was alone for a moment, she leaned in close to her ear and asked, "You alright?" Dahyun's breath hitched in her throat and she thought she might pass out. Her face was rosy, partially because of the wine that was being passed around, and her hands trembling. "I- I'm fine, just t-tired." Nayeon wasn't quite convinced but she didn't want to push Dahyun in case she avoided her again.
"Want to go to bed? I can tell them so you don't have to be in the spotlight." Dahyun felt her heart flutter at Nayeon's kindness. "Yes, please. Thank you." With that, she scurried off to her room. "Dahyun was getting tired, she went to bed." The girls just nodded and a couple yelled goodnight before getting back to their conversations. About twenty minutes went by and Nayeon was feeling conflicted. "Hey, Sana? Do you know if Dahyun's mad at me? She's been avoiding me since we got home. Do you think it's because her gift isn't here yet?" Sana put her hand on Nayeon's shoulder. "Hey, slow down. I don't think she's mad at you, I think you should talk to her. Sooner than later." Nayeon was going to ask what she meant but Momo whisked her away to dance.
Nayeon thought about it and slipped away to knock on Dahyun's door. When she heard a soft 'come in' she opened it. There sat Dahyun, a notebook in one hand and a pen in the other, one of her mini keyboards lying on the bed next to her. Nayeon paused for a moment to take in the sight, finding her incredibly attractive when writing. "Can't sleep?" Dahyun looked up and slammed her notebook shut when she realized who was at the door. "Guess not." Nayeon came further into the room and closed the door. "Can we talk?" Dahyun felt her heart rate spike. "Sure." The older sat down, leaving a good amount of space between them if Dahyun was uncomfortable. "Are you mad at me?"
That wasn't what Dahyun was expecting. "No! No, of course not." Nayeon nodded, mildly unconvinced. "Then why have you been avoiding me?" Dahyun stayed silent. "Was it because of your gift? I promise it'll be here soon, it's just taking longer than I thought..." She trailed off with furrowed brows. Dahyun shook her head. "It isn't that, I promise. It isn't really anything you've done, just some personal things I need to think about." Nayeon looked at her again with concern in her eyes. "Will it be easier if I keep my distance for a little while?" Dahyun's heart hurt at the question, but she knew what she needed. "Yes, I think it will be. It won't be forever." Nayeon flashed a fake smile and stood up suddenly. "Well, let me know if you need anything, okay?" Nayeon was quiet, her sentences choppy.
