(a/n- lots of foul language in this one guys, just a warning)
Jihyo gasped when her car door was ripped open at a red light. She turned to look at the culprit and was met with the barrel of a gun.
"Drive!" the woman in her passenger seat said. She followed the order and ran the red light, narrowly missing a car crossing the intersection. "Head south, I need to be dropped off about an hour outside the city," the woman explained. Jihyo did her best to follow without angering her.
She glanced at the woman beside her. She had a ski mask on so Jihyo couldn't see her face. She had two duffel bags at her feet, cash poking through one of the zippers. She wore black cargo pants and a black bodysuit that Jihyo cursed herself for ogling over.
Jihyo willed herself to stay calm and keep driving. One blaring thought in her head was her roommate. She was expecting her home and Jihyo was going to be very late.
"Um, can I call my roommate? I won't tell her about what I'm doing but she needs to know I'll be home late. She's a true crime junkie and she might call the cops if I'm too late home," Jihyo shakily said. She gestured to the gun in the woman's lap. "It isn't like I'd risk anything," she explained.
"Nothing funny, else I'll take the car and you'll be roadkill. Got it?" the woman threatened. Jihyo agreed and pulled out her phone.
"Jihyo! What's up?"
The phone hooked up to the car's Bluetooth.
"Hey, Sana-ssi. I'm gonna be a couple of hours late tonight. I got called back into the office for last-minute meetings."
"Aww man. Okay, just get home safe later. I'll keep the couch warm!"
Jihyo managed to smile.
"See you later, Satang."
She hung up.
"Sana? Minatozaki Sana?" the mystery woman asked Jihyo.
"You know her?" Jihyo's mind was racing. How did this dangerous person know her soft, sweet roommate? Who was keeping what from her? How the hell did Sana know someone capable of crime?
"We uh, we dated for a while," the woman replied.
Jihyo frowned. She only knew Sana to have one partner and she disappeared. She was out on a trip and never came back. Presumed dead, until now.
"Hirai Momo I swear to fucking god if you're under that goddamn mask..." Jihyo's voice was cold and sharp. Dangerous.
The woman slipped off the mask and cowered under her glare. Jihyo pulled the car over on the side of the highway and faced her.
"Where the fuck have you been, asshole? Do you know how hard it is to keep someone from falling apart because the love of their life died? Do you know how hard it was for the rest of us to deal with the death of someone we held so close? DO YOU?" Jihyo yelled at Momo. She felt rage simmer under the surface and escape in the form of hot tears.
"You have a lot of fucking explaining to do. We're going back to my apartment and you're telling us everything. Including why you have bags of fucking money on the floor of my car."
Momo didn't say a word.
--
"Momo?"
Sana ran to her and threw her arms around the woman, the same scent of sandalwood filling her lungs. She gripped her shirt like she'd disappear as soon as she let go. Momo held her just as close, tears welling up in her eyes as she felt the warmth of a love lost again.
"I thought I lost you, I thought you were-" Sana choked off a sob and just held her closer.
"I'm here, I'm okay," Momo replied as she tried to hold back her tears. Jihyo looked on and felt guilt eat away at her. It seemed like Momo really did miss her.
"Where have you been?"
Momo was dreading the question. Her phone buzzed and she pulled it out, her face dropped.
"I have to go, I know I just got back but trust me if I stay you'll get hurt."
Jihyo tried to stop her. "You hurt her already by leaving the first time, you think that'll hurt less?" Momo glared at her.
"You don't have any idea what you're talking about. If you want to know what happened, meet me at our old spot, midnight tonight," she said, aiming the second half at Sana. "If you don't leave right now there will be men with guns at your doorstep." She stepped up to Sana again and kissed her once. "I promise this won't be the last time you see me, baby. I won't let anyone break us apart again."
Her phone buzzed again and she took that as her cue. "Jihyo, can you get Sana out of here? Someone is coming to pick me up and you two shouldn't be here for it." Jihyo understood the seriousness in her voice and dragged Sana to the car.
"We have to go, we'll meet her later. I promise we'll go." Sana defeatedly got in the car and watched Momo get smaller and smaller.
She looked ahead, then at her feet. "Is that a gun?!"
