"I'll do some research. Your existence is against the rules."
Lunch was exceptional today. She thought of all days, all the years, the standard for everyone else in her life: friends, business associates, even and she hated to admit this, her own mother and father was all a grand programme machine. Or is it, a mere obligation? But of course, she'd been competing in a business-filled world long enough to quench their lust for prolific.
They sat at the table and for several moments. There was nothing but only silence. Being with her parents for such a long time was an awkward scene.
"Clarke, dear." Her mother begun. Finally, breaking the silence off but not in a way Reese would have preferred. "This would probably be the best time for us to discuss about some important matter before you start going off to college."
"What is it?" She queried but didn't seemed to like the tone of her mother neither the feeling.
"You'll be flying next week to New York for an important matter." Her mother declared. "I need you to meet this person, specifically."
"And make sure to clear out your schedule." Her father added before savoring the rest of the wine. "We don't want to have problems with theー"
"What? Next week? To New York? And that's it? Aren't you gonna ask me for an approval before sending me off to nowhere?" Reese protested, cutting her father off mid-sentence and with a jolted reaction. "I-I'm not going. I have some other plans."
"Why? Is that more important?" Her mother asked abruptly. "I mean, think of it. This is for the sake of your own future, Clarke."
"My future?" She was so sure she'd never raised a voice to her esteemed parents but she got sick and tired of their anticipated-lofty demands. "You just sold me to other families for your own advantage!"
Normally, her mother has a calm and pleasant demeanor. But this time, her face changed slowly into contorted and all, making her froze for a second. "Watch your tone, young lady. We never taught our child to be disrespectful." Her mother warned.
"For once. I've never wanted all this luxury." She retorded, surprised at how angry her tone was. "You can't make me go and meet random people. All for business."
"You're leaving us no other choice. You will not disobey us. Not this time" Her father countered and she threw a stern look at him. "We can't tolerate anymore of your past mistakes."
"What do you mean?" She asked and made her wondrously curious of the unknown, at the same time, perceiving a suspicion as if she was sensing a deep secret. "Waitー are you both hiding something from me?"
Instead, there was a long pause. A silence that hung in-between with nothing but the sound of an air-condition whirred across the room. She thought, she'll never going to understand this matter neither a point-one percent approbation.
"We're just trying to protect you." Her mother exclaimed and even tried to settle a gentler explanation.
Reese could see it plainly enough. Seeing them with a worried expression on their faces. Is there something I must not know? She drew her brows together in question and was obviously astounded by her mother's phrase. "Protect me? From what?" She asked for emphasis as if it was a matter of fact. "Oh, pleaseー just give me a one d.amn good explanation."
But her father could tell her none of it and automatically dismissed the idea. "Mr. Carillon will be accompanying you. You are leaving next week and that's final."
That's right.
Reality sucks.
No.
My world is.
She soon walked out of the dining hall, needing some place to break down and let all her frustrations out. Some place which is far secluded. Away from them.
~
The following week came, Tuesday, at nine-fifteen dot midmorning. The plane soon taxied to halt for a safe landing. But a sudden and unexpected notice was declared. In fifteen minutes time, they'll be boarding in South Korea due to craft machinery problems.
Well, she couldn't careless and was rather glad about the detainment, muttering to herself with joyous intent. A perfect chance to escape with fifty-fifty chance viability. On the other hand, Mr. Carillon busied himself to affix the matter.
Right now, Reese was more than ready to gamble a game and it's, playing for time. Courting danger was now her forte. I am ever fearless, a royal pain in the a.ss. All she wanted was freedom. A simple taste of life. Nothing else.
Fate must have agreed with her pretensions. "Rules are in place for a reason. To simply say, I like rules," She laughed self-consciously. New buzz word? Fun was what it should be. "I like knowing what is expected and it keeps me sane."
The next few hours went by in a blur. Reese made even sure no one would knew. To wherever she is or what city she was in. Although she barely understood of what the people are blabbering. Learning the means of communication? She can decipher double entendres in eighteen modern languages plus French and Latin. One never knows, such knowledge will prove useful.
"Yaaa! Josimhae (watch out)." Some guy started to cause an uproar which made Reese turned her heel, searching to where that voice originally came.
She saw someone from a far distance, running on a fast pace. And not long enough, she felt a distinct, sharp pain on her upper torso.
C.rap!
Reese fell over on the top of a young man who's about her age but remained stun as blood were gushing through her cheeks. What the actual f.uck, a fallen angel? But she snapped herself out from the embarrassment and stood right away. "I-I'm sorry, are you alright?"
Great. Why the hell are you apologizing, well in fact, it was his fault for being reckless?
"Come, run away with me." He managed to grin at her, grabbing her hand and begun dragging her on the road with him.
Huh? What? Don't tell me this alien is abducting me. No waitー a kidnapping?
"Hey, stop! Where are you taking me? And who are you?" She screamed and tried to release her hand from his strong grip. "Let go of my hand, you jerk!"
Finally, the stranger stopped in the middle of freaking nowhere. Now what? I am more doomed than before. She eyed him looking around, carefully not to be seen by others before pulling his hood off. And eventually, he gave her a deep stare, curving the corner part of his lips.
His smile suddenly changed his face from incredibly handsome into devastatingly attractive as if perfection really do exist.
"Sorry for dragging you along with me, love. Kim Taehyung here or you can call me V, better." He begun as his tongue sneakily swiped across his lower lip. "At your service, no, rather to held you as my captive. I know that girls are the best thing in the world."
