The elevator door opens, level eight. The corridor is long and narrow. We reach the ward at the end. It’s deserted like some others. Allyson takes me to the back room,

Laurie opens the door as I fall inside. The group rush to my aid. They all seem so frightened and frantic. Laurie does her best to remind them that the noise needs to be kept to a minimum. Laurie has one of those medical boots on her foot. Hopefully it helps with her mobility. Moments pass as the room goes silent. Daisy is sitting on the floor with her head buried into her knees. Max does his best to comfort her.

Laurie stands guard at the door as Allyson weapons up. I turn behind me to see a load of medical instruments. Some look like they could be weapons. I feel around the shelf, looking for anything I can use to defend myself with. I find a knife, not to big and not to small. Seems perfect for hand to hand combat. Laurie is also holding a knife. Except hers resembles the one Michael has. Allyson has a sort of homemade spear. Daisy has a scalpel and Max, unfortunately for him has a frying pan. Laurie turns to the rest of us.

“We need an escape plan.”

“I have one. The morgue. We get there and out through the loading bay” I answer.

“Ok, I like it. Let’s get to the morgue. Does everyone have a weapon?” asks Laurie looking around the room.

With the agreement of everyone nodding, it’s time to get back downstairs and underground. I open the door a fraction, I peer through the crack. It seems the coast is clear for now. We make our way to the hallway. We move as silent as possible, trying to evade any possible noises we could make. Our formation of movement seems military, like it’s been thought out and strategized, but in hindsight, it’s how we came together. The extremely long corridor feels like it could go on for days. It’s like it’s never going to end. We have a decision to make. Take the stairs, or take the elevator.

It’s agreed, we take the elevator to the ground floor and make our way to the opposite aide of the building. The only issue is, it’s a long walk and with Michael roaming around in the shadows, it’ll be hard to manoeuvre in certain areas. Screw it, we have to try. The elevator dings as the doors open slowly. We make our way through the hallways once again. I can see two signs at the end. One points to exit and the other points to the morgue.

We pander for a moment but ultimately decide on the morgue. The journey through the hospital has been difficult. No one is without their jumps and bumps. It’s very easy to feel like things are going bump in the night. Or even checking over your shoulder every couple of seconds.
Finally we made it to the elevator.

Suddenly we hear a noise behind us. Michael has broken-down the door. I throw the swipe card to Laurie. I ready up with the rest of the group. Michael approaches slowly, we immediately go on the attack. He swipes hard and fast. We somehow manage to dodge the oncoming attack.

Allyson attacks and gets grabbed by her neck. Michael picks her up and starts choking her. I rush to her aid, stabbing Michael twice. It looks to have no effect as he swats me away effortlessly. I look to the elevator, the doors open. Allyson picks up Daisy from the floor who’s been a statue since she laid eyes on Michael.

I race toward the elevator. We’re in. Only one person left. Max. He rushes toward the elevator and places both hands on the doors. He’s about to step inside when suddenly Michael drives his knife through his chest. Our hands reach out but it’s no use. Michael drags him away from the door and stands in the middle of the foyer, lifting Max up with one hand on the knife. Daisy lets out one of the most primal screams I’ve ever heard.

“No!”

The doors close as Max’s faith is sealed. Daisy drops to her knees distraught. That’s two people she’s had to watch die that she loves. I check my neck for the swipe card. I can’t find it. It must be fell off when Michael threw me across the room. That means one thing. He has it and we’re locked in here with him. The elevator door opens once again this time in the morgue. Faye rushes to the door seeing all of us fall. She picks me up and checks me over.
