VIGILANTE

{YEARS LATER}

"We should hit them back, we've got the numbers to beat them." A brute woman snarled slamming her fist against the wooden table. Shaking under the weight. A scrawny man called out in agreement. The crowd shouted in agreement.

All eyes peaking at Vander who leant against the bar lazily. Benzo standing beside him, arms crossed watching for a reaction. He lit a match before taking a long smoke. Glancing around the room with a stern look.

"Are you sure that's what you want." He gained the same reaction from the young adults. "We crossed that bridge once before, and we all know how that ended."

"You're just protecting your kids!" A man called causing Vander to turn his head to the five young children. "I'm protecting our people. If do the same for any one of you. We look out for each other it's the way it's always been. This will blow over, we just need to stand together."

"The Vander I knew, the one who built the underground, wouldn't be afraid to fight."

A chair squealed in agony. Catching the bars attention, healed footsteps croaking along the wooden floors. Silence speaking volumes.

The woman held her head high. E/c orbs dancing around the room looking at each person with annoyance. The pink scar that stretched across her face became horrifying over the years.

"And how many died because of confidence to fight back?" She snarled. "We're in the same positions, no matter what."

The five kids looked towards their mother figure. Eyes wide at her sudden cold attitude. She was nothing but kind and nurturing towards them. Even when angry it would be a small frown.

"You're both weak."

A sharp whistle left the large woman's mouth as a small group left the bar. The atmosphere changing quickly. Y/n's face softened once again. Walking towards Vander with a small frown.

"Y/n, I've already scolded the-" she held a hand towards the man. Not wanting him to protect them from her lecture. She watched as the kids scurried downstairs. Trying their best to avoid her.

Huffing the woman retreated down stairs after them. Throwing open the door, wtzhcung as the children avoided eye contact.

"What did I say."

"Vander already told us off we're sor-"

"No." She interrupted Vi, crossing her arms under her bust. The golden chain reflecting in the light. Her low cut top showing of the precious item with pride. "I don't want you kids ending up in a cell. For doing stupid shit like stealing from a university!"

The four fell silent looking down in guilt. They don't usually upset Y/n. It was a first hearing the anger in her voice directed to them. It hurt. She sighed softly patting her lips before a toy monkey dropped down from the side. Alerting the six for an emergency.

"Hide."

The door was thrown open, the h/c haired woman looking up towards the stairs being met with a man in blue. Bile rising to her throat seeing the familiar uniform. She placed the book down to her side.

"Can I help you?" She hummed watching as the man wondered around the dull room. A single candle lit on the table. "Make yourself at home."

She scoffed turning back to the book. He looked around for a few more seconds before leaving the room slamming the door shut. Powder dropping from the ceiling with a small thud.

Rushing over towards Y/n she hid beside her place on the couch. Ducking behind the arm chair as the door was thrown open again. Vander stepping down. The rest of the kids fell from their positions.

Vi stepping forwards first. Clearly annoyed by something. She reminded y/n so much of a younger Vander it was scary.

"You okay?"

"No we're not okay they almost found Powder! What if they took her!" Y/n scoffed standing from her seat, the blue haired child clinging to her side.

"Then I'd splatter blood across this floor." She spoke. "Nothing but Will happen."

"But it's already happening and we need to fight back!" She slammed her fist against the metal of the wall. "And if you won't. I will."

"I've heard this kind of talk before."

Vander and Vi left, leaving Y/n with the rest of the kids. She sighed moving to put the kids to bed. powder going down first, sending Ekko on his way home. Mylo and Claggor gave the woman a sad apology that was returned with a warm hug and a gentle kiss against their foreheads.

Y/n sighed settling against the couch once again. Her hand clasping against the chain again. Feeling the links with a gentle touch. She kept it close to her heart always. Treating it with such care. Making sure it it pristine with age.

Standing from her seat the woman left towards the bar. Even after the years she missed him dearly. The way he treated her the night before everything that went down. God, it was like he knew. He knew he wasn't coming home to her. If only she knew that too.

Taking the already made drink from the bar she sat in silence. Vander watching as she brushed the golden chain. Brows furrowing in sadness. He caused her so much pain.

A small powder wondered upstairs, placing a stuffed animal against the counter. A sad look against her face. Vander smiled softly, grabbing her favourite drink, placing a straw in the cup. When she didn't move he knew something was wrong.

The two adults sharing a look, y/n nodding hesitantly towards the broad man. With a small grunt he rushed off towards Benzos shop. She could only hope he would make it in time before the enforcers reached her.

Y/n sighed running her fingers through powders blue hair. A small smile directed at her. Powder huffed leaning into the woman's touch.

"Why don't you go downstairs and lay down? I'm sure Vi's going to make it back without a scratch, hm?"

The small girl nodded pressing her lips against Y/n's cheek. Just as she does to them. Before creeping down the stairs a worried look casting over her face.
