David slowly opened his eyes to reveal his bedroom, and felt him in his bed. Did he dream? Or was last night the same as every other night, hollow and empty? He couldn't tell.

He slowly sat up to his empty bedroom and sighed.

Ever since the White Stag came along, he had a hole in his soul that was never quite fixed at the disappearance of Susan and the others. He just wished he could-

David paused. Was the White Stag still out there?

No one had told him because, well, he wasn't exactly in the right mindset to ever have someone report on it, because that would require talking to someone, which almost always was prohibited by his ever-increasingly depressing isolating brain.

David slowly went wide-eyed as a plan formed and he got out of bed, magically and quickly changing clothes. He finally had a reason to go outside.

He exhaled, disregarding his always tired mind as his heart beat faster. He had a plan.

David decided to go out into the woods to look for the White Stag. Either he would find Susan, or he would find true love.

After wandering around trying to find where the stables were, for it was night and he couldn't find anyone to ask, he finally found them, saddled up on a horse that looked like it wouldn't ditch him, and tried to remember how to ride as David successfully made way for the woods.

He would've talked to the horse, but he was more focused on riding correctly and not dying, and David always knew conversations were hard to start for him anyway.

Eventually he finally made it, but after a couple of miles into the woods, he realized how stupid he was for going at night. Both David and his horse slowly stopped in encroaching dread.

"...Well, uh...shit."

They slowly trotted forward, deeper and deeper into the woods. David's breathing grew heavier, his gaze darting around faster. He'd forgotten how...cautious? paranoid? he usually was.

He'd also forgotten where he was, period.

Not being in the woods consistently- or at all recently- meant he got turned around very easily.

"...Well, I'm completely lost..."

David did the only thing he could do: move, with luck, forward.

Eventually he was greeted by the sight of Cair Paravel. If his escapade was meant to be fruitless, then fruitless it was. He slowly rode towards it with a heavy head and heavier heart.
